Job Responsibilities The Plumber performs semi-skilled plumbing duties in repair and maintenance of existing plumbing pipes, equipment and systems in the University of South Carolina Residence Halls. We are looking for a hard worker, someone who enjoys challenges, and is knowledgeable in plumbing. Important aspects of this job - This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. Ability to understand and apply University and Departmental policies and procedures. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to use judgment and initiative to complete routine work without constant supervision. Ability to work on a ladder. Will serve in an afterhours On-Call rotation. Compensation is dependent upon experience and education. Minimum and Additional Requirements Accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 3 or more years of experience. Preferred Qualifications 5 years related work experience. Minimum two years of experience as a journeyman level plumber, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in this area of work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. State commercial plumbing (mechanical) license. Additional Comments Knowledge of safety practices in the plumbing area. Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in the plumbing trade. Understand all plumbing systems, blueprints, and equipment manuals and use same to troubleshoot systems, makes repairs, and installs new components. Requires inspections of all areas of the residence halls, and other buildings, which may include climbing ladders, crawling in utility tunnels, attics, pipe chases and mechanical areas. Develop and maintain professional relationships with staff, residents and various customer groups, also demonstrates supportive involvement in work environment. Work as a team member, but also make effective independent decisions and follow through on assignments.
