Job Summary

The Planning Manager oversees the development and maintenance of job schedules to meet customer needs. Collaborating with various departments, they analyze production specifications, resolve schedule conflicts, and drive process improvements. Ideal candidates have extensive production scheduling experience, particularly in weld processes, and possess strong communication and leadership skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive job schedules to meet customer requirements, collaborating closely with purchasing, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Analyze production specifications, shop capacity, and customer forecasts to determine manufacturing processes, routings, and required tools.
  • Create and supply reports to leadership and sales, providing insights into production status and schedule adherence.
  • Maintain customer-centric approach to planning, ensuring that plans and schedules are aligned with customer requirements, delivery commitments, and service level agreements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, operations, engineering, and purchasing teams to resolve schedule conflicts or delays.
  • Identify opportunities for outsourcing jobs/operations based on capacity and capability assessments.
  • Maintain the Production Schedule, incorporating project plans and ensuring schedule accuracy.
  • Conduct daily and weekly meetings with key department stakeholders to review production schedules, verify schedule KPIs, and plan for future work.
  • Collaborate with Operations to identify bottlenecks and develop contingency plans to maintain schedule integrity.
  • Work proactively with the Purchasing team to ensure supplier schedules support production requirements.
  • Own and enhance all production planning and scheduling processes, driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to the planning team, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Understand the relationship between capacity management and MRP, optimizing work center loading and capacity levels.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute a department roadmap focused on key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives such as On-Time Delivery (OTD) and schedule attainment.
