Are you ready to join a growing team? We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Pipefitter to join our team. As a Pipefitter in Facilities Hospital Maintenance, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and installing piping systems that are essential for the proper functioning of various medical equipment and utilities. Essential Accountabilities: Maintains and performs repairs, modifications, replacements and installations of steam piping and chilled water piping. Must be able to braze, hard and soft solder, and use oxy-fuel burning and welding equipment. Must be able to weld on stainless, carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum versatile in Mig and Tig and stick welding methods. Able to perform all the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position of General Mechanic. Performs routine and preventive maintenance to include operating, cleaning, inspecting, rigging, troubleshooting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems, and other similar tasks on a wide variety of piping systems and mechanical systems such as steam, gas hot water, compressed air and chilled water equipment. May be called upon to perform the work of other maintenance personnel or to assist in the completion of their work to include Boiler Operators/Mechanics, HVAC Mechanics, Electricians, Plumbers, Maintenance Technicians, Carpenters, Masons and others. Responds to requests for maintenance and service from building occupants to include emergencies, maintenance problems, requested installations, modifications repairs and adjustments, and other similar tasks. Maintains and performs repairs, welding modifications, replacements and installations of steam and chilled water systems to include traps, piping, valves, heat exchangers, condensate return systems, flash tanks, boilers, and other similar equipment. Performs and be familiar with pressure tapping "hot tap" welding installations and safety procedures. Repairs and troubleshoots hot and cold water systems to include pumps, heat exchangers, piping, valves, condensate return units, steam traps, and water treatment equipment. Repairs HVAC hot and chilled water components to include coils, boilers, hot and chilled water piping, valves, etc., and waste removal systems to include grease traps, piping, sewage processing equipment, sanitary drain lines, traps, sewage ejectors. Stays informed about technological advancements in the field and recommends improvements to enhance system performance. Collaborates with other maintenance staff to coordinate and execute projects efficiently. Attends departmental training and meetings, including monthly safety meetings. Work Schedule and On-Call Requirements: Incumbent must have flexibility due to on-call requirements. Position is designated as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, regardless of the University's closure. Employees should be prepared to travel to work during inclement weather, emphasizing the importance of their role in critical situations. Offer Amount: Starting rates are based on our Compensation Guidelines, taking into consideration total relevant, verifiable experience (UAB/UAB Medicine and outside experience), grade minimum, internal equity, and pay ranges. In addition to base rate, incentive for 6-G Welding Certification, upon hire. Graduate from an accredited Technical School and three (3) years of related experience required. Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver's license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Proven experience as a Pipefitter, preferably in a healthcare or industrial setting. Certification or completion of a recognized Pipefitting apprenticeship program. Strong knowledge of piping systems, welding techniques, and relevant tools. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.
