RESPONSIBILITIES: Install sanitary and storm water sewer structures and piping systems. He/she must possess a "committed team" attitude in order to carry out the primary functions as set forth below: Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Lay out pipe routes, following specifications or blueprints, and coordinating layouts with supervisor Cut pipes to required lengths Assist in aligning pipes to prepare them for sealing or welding Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using cement, glue or welding equipment Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices Cover pipes with earth or other materials Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools Operate heavy, motorized equipment used in earth moving operations, including, but not limited to dozers, scrapers, loaders, excavators, etc. and other equipment to support a variety of operations. Train others in pipe-laying techniques Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as required including fluid and filter changes and parts lubrication. Perform other general labor and construction related duties and responsibilities as assigned. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Knowledge of: Operational characteristics of a variety of heavy, power-driven equipment Maintenance requirements of heavy, power-driven equipment Methods and materials used in general construction and maintenance work Principles and techniques of field maintenance activities Occupational hazards and standard safety practices Skill and Ability to: Operate heavy power-driven equipment Perform a variety of skilled construction and maintenance tasks Read and interpret plan sets, maps, sketches, drawings, specifications and technical manuals Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions Work independently in the absence of supervision Understand and follow oral and written instructions Prepare written reports and/or forms Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing or via radio Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required Minimum Requirements Three-five (3-5) plus years of experience of pipe laying techniques Working knowledge of various heavy equipment Multi-tasking, organization skills & attention to detail a must; Good interpersonal relations skills Drug & alcohol testing is a condition of employment Provide driver's license Abstract is a condition of employment Must have a valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance per State requirements; Must have reliable transportation; Current CPR/First Aid Certification desired, but not necessary (willing to obtain certification upon request).
