Explore the Four Corners Regio n The Facility - Northern Navajo Medical Center The Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico is located in the Four Corners area of the United States where New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah meet. Northern Navajo Medical Center is one of five facilities located within the Shiprock Service Unit. The Shiprock Service Unit is the largest service unit of the Navajo Nation. Approximately 80,837 Native Americans (mostly Navajo) are enrolled at Northern Navajo Medical Center. The inpatient load is 29 per day and the outpatient volume averages 600 per day. A variety of services are available including internal medicine, family practice, urgent and emergency care, pediatrics, general surgery, women's health, mental health, respiratory therapy, outpatient rehabilitation services, pharmacy, optometry, dental, public health nursing, social services, health promotion/disease prevention, radiology, laboratory and benefits coordination. Northern Navajo Medical Center employs 860 full-time employees. The medical staff consists of 75 physicians and 24 mid-level providers. RESPONSIBILITIES The Psychiatrist shall provide a high standard of clinical practice and clinical expertise contributing to the provision of efficient and effective Psychiatric clinical services to the Indian community, as served by the Shiprock Behavioral Health Unit. Psychiatric services shall include comprehensive care for patients with a variety of mental health conditions including, but not limited to: patients with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, substance abuse and those who have a dual diagnosis. Contractor shall provide service in the Outpatient Mental Health department in the delivery of patient care. Service shall be inspected, reviewed and monitored by the Clinical Director or her designer, or via telemedicine. Shall evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with a variety of mental health symptoms and diagnosis. They will be able to diagnosis applicable conditions as presented in the DSM-V for patients in our Shiprock Unit. After diagnosis, they shall be able to offer appropriate psychiatric interventions consisting of psychopharmacology, therapy services, or both. The Psychiatrist will be primarily performing these duties in the outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic. Occasionally, they may be required to participate in consultation services for our inpatient medical unit. Maintains a high standard of professional care in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements and agency policies. Assumes clinical responsibility for established patients with psychiatric conditions. Consults with patients on conditions including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, primary psychotic disorders and other applicable diagnoses as directed by the DSM V. Conducts outpatient clinics, consultations, and other duties using the clinic day schedule efficiently and effectively. Help coordinate care within the Behavioral Health clinic in regards to patients also receiving therapy and social work services. Promptly assesses and advises on patients referred for a Psychiatric opinion; provides and/or supervises clinical care including the assessment, investigation, treatment, and appropriate referral of patients who present to the service unit. The Psychiatrist shall provide patients with a full explanation of all procedures and treatments. The Psychiatrist shall be involved in health promotion and disease prevention activities and in advising patients with mental health conditions, physicians, nurses, other providers, and community members about the advantages of healthy lifestyles and specific measures that may prevent recurrences of ill health. The Psychiatrist shall demonstrate evidence of self-education activities to acquire new skills, procedures, or qualifications which contribute positively toward the quality of service provided and achievement of obligations. They must complete and provide documentation of competed CMEs, as required by the state licensure and deemed necessary by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Psychiatrist shall participate in service unit quality assurance and peer review activities. Psychiatrist shall gain an understanding of the service unit health and safety requirements. The Psychiatrist shall treat patients with respect and show consideration for their personal privacy, maintenance of dignity and independence, social and cultural needs, and religious values and beliefs.
