Videos Help Duties SURGERY Multidisciplinary Pain Physician will evaluate and treat injuries, illnesses and disability and are experts in designing comprehensive patient-centered multi-treatment plans to maximize function and quality of life. Multidisciplinary Pain physician is a medical doctor who has completed training in the medical specialty of Surgery, Medicine and/or Anesthesia. Specifically, Multidisciplinary Pain physician has either specialized, is tenured or completed an accredited fellowship in Pain Medicine: SURGERY Multidisciplinary Pain Physician Specialized Attributes: Diagnose and treats pain and performs multi- interventional pain procedures Promote delivery of evidence based healthcare Restore maximum function lost through injury, illness or disabling conditions Provide management of acute, chronic and cancer pain, coordinates, performs interventional pain procedures Educate Veterans/families to promote self-efficacy and shared decision making; provide access to all relevant resources Instruct/train all team members to their discipline specific competencies, including team based care ? Develop and integrate non-pharmacological modalities into care plans Institute evidence based medication prescribing, use of pain procedures and safe opioid use (universal precautions) Implement approaches for bringing the Veteran's whole team together such as virtual pain consulting (SCAN-ECHO, e-consults, tele-health, clinical video tele-consultation and education) and for maintaining ongoing communication between team members Working in close collaboration with the Facility Pain POC, Primary Care (PACT) Pain Champion, Academic Detailing pharmacists , the Pain Management Team/Pain Clinic team members and other facility stakeholders. Emerging processes/procedures to ensure implementation and compliance with national policy related to pain management, opioid safety and risk mitigation strategies, Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution (OEND), management of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), initiatives in compliance with national policy, clinical practice guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Create metrics to monitor pain care and outcomes at both the individual level and the population level Explain to the patient and their family medical problems and multidisciplinary pain treatment/prevention plans available Demonstrate excellent teaching and mentoring skills for resident's education Collaborate as a member of hospital committees and contribute to enhance patient access to health care; attend all required meetings. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Hines Surgery Multidisciplinary Pain physician will treat any disability resulting from disease or injury, from sore shoulders to spinal cord injuries. The focus will be on the development of a comprehensive program for putting the pieces of a person's life back together after injury or disease - without surgery. Surgery Multidisciplinary Pain physician takes the time needed to accurately pinpoint the source of an ailment then evaluate and diagnose neurologic, musculoskeletal, and orthopedic conditions. Evaluation may include electrodiagnostic testing and treatment may include procedures such as injections and interventional pain management. SURGERY Multidisciplinary Pain physician will design a treatment plan that can be carried out by the patients themselves or with the help of the Surgery physician's medical team. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
