This position is responsible for accurately and efficiently performing the staging and shipping process. Duties include but are not limited to, printing all packing lists and labels, setting up staging area to process shipments, assembling and labeling tubes, and placing final compounded medication with the appropriate package. The pharmacy student intern also assists with verifying compounding pharmacists in a cleanroom environment, quality control, maintenance and cleaning of the pharmacy work areas, as described in the Pharmacy Policy and Procedures Manual, and performance improvement activities as directed by the pharmacy manager.

The schedule: Monday-Friday, flexible afternoon/evening shift. Open to available hours of the candidate

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent is required

Registration with the State Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of hire is required

Completion of pharmacy technician training and certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Pharmacy Technician Association, preferred, with certification to be completed within six months of employment

Laboratory or healthcare experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recognizes patients' rights and responsibilities and supports them in the performance of job duties; respects patient's rights to privacy and confidentiality.

Processes patient specific orders from the physician.

Completes the order entry process for all prescriptions sent in to the pharmacy.

Verifies that the pharmacist pulls the correct drug and the correct amount of drug based on the compounding record.

Ensures pharmacists have all supplies needed for compounding.

Confirms what the pharmacist has in the syringe and assists with any inaccuracies.

Cleans the clean room and other areas of the pharmacy based on pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure the facility is USP compliant.

Communicates with pharmacists throughout the compounding process to ensure orders are correct.

Reworks order if an inaccuracy is detected and helps conduct a root cause analysis to determine how the mistake was made to ensure it does not happen again.

Maintains "staging" area to set up drug and supply orders for preparation by staff in the clean room.

Obtains, interprets, and evaluates all physician medication orders.

Verifies accuracy of dispensing, medical, and laboratory data.

Performs bubble point integrity test according to pharmacy policy and procedures.

Garb (dress) into appropriate and distinctive clean room attire before entering the compounding area. This includes a full coverall with integrated hood, goggles, gloves, shoe covers, and a face mask in an effort to obtain 100% skin coverage.

Operates electric or manual pallet jack to move product and pallets throughout the facility's shipping/receiving area.

Participates in initial training and competencies as well as ongoing training associated with the performance of job duties.

Accurately maintains all legally required records.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Assists the supervisor in training of new staff and provides appropriate feedback as necessary.

Maintains department facilities, equipment, and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.

Follows and assists in inventory control procedures.

Completes paperwork and computer related duties.

Shares knowledge gained with other staff members and works as a team member.

Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner.

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must pass all pharmacy and sterile compounding competencies within the first 90 days of employment.

Must be able to fully comply with garbing requirements outlined in the essential duties and responsibilities section as well as in company policies and procedures for extended periods of time.

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in the workplace.

Demonstrate extreme attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Good personal hygiene.

Must follow all personnel hygiene and gowning requirements as outlined in USP .

Basic computer proficiency.

Knowledge in the use of Microsoft applications.
