Position Overview: Pharmacist (Employee Pharmacy) JOB CODE:20924 SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB) Ensures the effective operation of the employee pharmacy. Supervises the procurement, storage, preparation, and dispensing of employee prescription and over the counter medications. Ensures safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies for patients. Demonstrates proficiency with all information systems required to appropriately service hospital employees. Demonstrates understanding of Federal and State laws governing controlled substance dispensing. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's degree in pharmacy. PharmD graduate of an ACPE Accredited School of Pharmacy preferred. Experience :One year of retail pharmacy experience preferred. Other Credentials Pharmacist - Registered Knowledge and Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong attention to detail; Knowledge of and ability to use computer or typewriter keyboard; Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups served by the Pharmacy. Usual Work Day:8 Hours ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Directs the overall daily operation of the employee pharmacy to ensure that patient pharmaceutical needs are met effectively and efficiently. Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of the pharmacy technicians. Participates in the performance appraisal of pharmacy support personnel. Works independently with minimal supervision. Organizes and prioritizes work assignments. Participates in departmental quality improvement programs. Ensures that the employee pharmacy adheres to the standards and regulations established by all regulatory agencies, including NJ Board of Pharmacy and DEA. Counsels patients as requested. Interprets and dispenses the prescriptions correctly. Reviews purchase orders and cost change reports for accuracy. Maintains the minimum pharmacy inventory while ensuring that the employees receive the requested medication in a timely manner. Selects the most cost-effective product when ordering. Enters new drug information into the QS1 system. Ensures correct pricing. Generates all reports associated with operation of the employee pharmacy. Troubleshoot issues with success in the resolution of problems. Implements and describes back-up plan in the event of power or communications failure in accordance with established procedures. Collects and analyzes data and implements changes to improve the overall management of the employee pharmacy. Performs all controlled substance transactions accurately and records in the appropriate log record. Checks controlled drug inventory and investigates discrepancies. Reports all unresolved discrepancies to management. Stores all expired controlled drugs properly to prevent loss. Files all controlled medication paperwork in appropriate files.
