JOB TITLE: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NPP)

POSITION GRADE: 97 (salary 59$-64$/ hr commensurate with education and experience)

SUPERVISOR: SeniorDirector of Health Services

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Health Services, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide psychiatric assessment, evaluation, intervention, and management of patients, including medication management, through comprehensive clinical assessment including medical history, psychiatric history, mental status exam and diagnosis. The NPP will meet with clients during individual scheduled appointments for prescription of psychotropic medications, provide medication education and management, supportive psychotherapy, and crisis intervention. The NPP will provide clinical consultation to mental health clinicians and nurses regarding psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, interpretation of psychiatric information and formulation and implementation of individual treatment plans. The NPP will utilize assessment and acquired information to clarify problem areas and treatment needs, and assist in the establishment of appropriate interventions. The NPP consults with the primary clinician in making appropriate community based referrals and recommendations based on findings. The NPP will document all clinical service activity in an accurate and timely manner as required by regulatory and funding bodies. The NPP will work with surrounding educational programs to offer observations and preceptorship for the Registered and Advance Practice Nursing students in the area. The NPP will demonstrate and be accountable to the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and Strategic Plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Exercises full compliance with the Agency's Code of Conduct, all Agency Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security for all client and staff related materials and/or records.
  • Act as primary psychiatric provider in various VOH programs including campus residential, outpatient behavioral health and detox services based on program needs
  • Attends collaborative treatment team meetings as needed.
  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats VOH clients.
  • Provides psychopharmacologic medication management
  • Accurately documents all treatment
  • Provide psychoeducation
  • Orders, interprets and analyzes diagnostic studies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, licensure and certification:
  • Masters of Science in Nursing with ANCC certification in psychiatry and currently licensed through the NYS Office of the Professions as an Advanced Practice Nurse;
  • Must maintain RN license; DEA X-Waiver for prescribing medication assisted treatment for substance use disorders; BLS CPR

Experience:
  • Provision of psychiatric services across the lifespan; Experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Experience in Substance Use Disorders

Physical Demands:
  • Standing/Walking: Standing and walking is required for the majority of time spent on campus. Nurses must be able to walk around campus throughout shift (including hills, stairs, and inclement weather conditions)
  • Lifting: Regular lifting of medical supplies, medications, patient supplies, and patient charts, all weighing up to twenty pounds is required.
  • Bending: Bending is required when administering patient care. One must be able to bend to touch the floor to remove environmental hazards.

Kneeling: Squatting is required when operating medical equipment and performing aspects of patient care, such as CPR
