SUMMARY

The Pediatric Ophthalmologist is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of serious eye conditions including but not limited to conjunctivitis, corneal disease, ocular disease, ROP, strabismus, oculoplastics, glaucoma and cataracts; vision problems such as nearsightedness; and eye injuries. Pediatric Ophthalmologist will work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide the high quality care to include providing evaluation and treatment plan specific to the needs of each patient.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat specific eye conditions in infants, children and adolescents in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Perform eye surgery and prescribe and fit eyeglasses.
  • Analyze results from all tests conducted and share results with patient and family.
  • Make high-level judgements due to the complexities of ophthalmic conditions.
  • Document assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinical support staff, and administrative staff in meeting patient and family needs.
  • Provide health promotion, education to patient/families related to medication, diagnosis and caring for the condition and options.
  • Management of inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients.
  • Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
  • Participate in research initiatives.
  • Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.
  • Provide education and training to residents, fellows and medical students.
  • Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
  • Participate in call rotation along with other Providers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Graduate from accredited school of medicine required
  • MD or DO Degree required
  • 2 or more years of experience preferred
  • Completed Fellowship Training in Pediatric Ophthalmology required.

LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  • Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT and must be maintained thereafter
  • DEA with Controlled Substance required and must be maintained thereafter
  • Board certified/board eligible Ophthalmology - must be certified within 2 years of employment
