PAYROLL MANAGER
  • Maintains up-to-date payroll information by directing and reviewing the collection, calculation and entering of data
  • Reviews supporting documentation for appropriate approval and oversees changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, job titles and department transfers.
  • Pays employees by directing the issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts
  • Compiles and reviews summary reports of earnings, taxes and deductions as well as payments related to leave, disability and nontaxable wages
  • Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes as well as employer's social security, unemployment and workers' compensation payments.
  • Works with the Accounting department as needed to reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
  • Responds to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner, offering guidance where possible (excluding tax advice)
  • Documents and maintains payroll policies and procedures, updating at least annually
  • Complies with federal, state, and international tax requirements by keeping abreast of existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on required actions
  • Maintains security and extreme confidentiality of payroll information
  • Manages department workflow and individual assignments, follows up on work results providing timely and constructive feedback, and ensures appropriate training and service levels are maintained
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Skills & Competencies:
  • Familiar with laws related to compensation and wage structure, benefits administration, workers' compensation and employment
  • Possesses tax expertise and financial/reporting skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines
  • Maintains a professional demeanor with an emphasis on people-management skills
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, coordinate and implement efficient processes
  • Able to operate independently as well as within a team environment and perform duties which require good judgment, collaboration and initiative
  • The ability to problem solve, maintain composure and work well within a high-pressure environment
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and courteously across all levels within and outside the Firm
Qualifications & Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of (5) years of experience processing payroll required
  • Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines
