Rare Plant Research Internship

Job Description: Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated openings for a Part-Time Rare Plant Research Internship. The Center for Environmental Studies at Raritan Valley Community College is looking for seasonal interns to assist with botanical research related to rare plant conservation in New Jersey in 2021. Interns will assist faculty and staff with surveys for rare plant species, botanical inventories, rare plant monitoring, propagation, planting and related research. There may be additional opportunities to assist with specimen collection and curation, herbarium management, and participation in other related projects based on intern interests and abilities. Duration and Compensation: This will be a minimum ten week internship from now through August 31, 2021 (flexible), with optional participation available beyond those dates. Interns are expected to work one to two full days per week, depending upon availability and funding limitations. Interns will be paid $15 per hour and are responsible for their own transportation. Requirements: Demonstrated proficiency in NJ plant identification, familiarity with technical manuals preferred Current RVCC student in good academic standing, or recent alumnus Interest and/or experience in botany/ecology/conservation field work Proficiency with MS Excel preferred Physical ability to work outdoors under all weather and terrain conditions for a minimum of 6-8 hours/day. Interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) Ability to work independently and in teams Must have personal transportation and be willing to drive 1-2 hours to field sites across New Jersey Application Instructions: As a New Jersey First Act Employer, new employees must establish a primary residence in New Jersey within one year unless an exemption applies.
