Job Title: Shipping Dock Worker

Job Summary: Shipping dock workers are responsible for the efficient handling of incoming and outgoing shipments at shipping docks. They work in various industries, including warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing plants, and shipping terminals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Loading and Unloading: Safely load and unload shipments from trucks, trailers, and containers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment.

  2. Sorting and Organizing: Sort and organize shipments based on destination, size, weight, and other criteria to ensure efficient distribution and storage.

  3. Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by counting, labeling, and verifying incoming and outgoing shipments.

  4. Quality Control: Inspect shipments for damages, discrepancies, or defects and report any issues to supervisors or relevant personnel.

  5. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries while operating machinery and handling shipments.

  6. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyor belts to ensure proper functioning.

  7. Documentation: Complete shipping and receiving documents, such as bills of lading, packing slips, and shipping labels, accurately and efficiently.

  8. Communication: Coordinate with truck drivers, warehouse staff, and other team members to ensure timely and accurate shipment processing.

  9. Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues related to shipment discrepancies, delays, or damages in a proactive and efficient manner.

  10. Teamwork: Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental goals and objectives, including meeting deadlines and maintaining productivity levels.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations preferred.
  • Forklift certification may be required depending on the job requirements.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to material handling and equipment operation.
