QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High school diploma required

Two years of college preferred

Experience:

Experience working with school staff and parents preferred

JOB SUMMARY:

The Parent Liaison supports the relationship between parents, students, and school administrators, faculty, and staff. The Parent Liaison provides support for parents and students by building positive relationships with parents, communicating school policies and practices to parents (including translating documents into the parents' language), and acting as an advocate for parents with regard to school practices.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents in order to improve student success
    • Provide parent workshops and trainings to assist parents in supporting their children's success in school
    • Educate parents about school policies and practices, including registration, student schedules, transportation, required forms, etc.
    • Reach out to parents through informal activities
  1. On-site language and communication assistance
    • Translate written parent-related materials into the appropriate language
    • Assist parents with required activities in the school office, including completing school registration materials
    • Assisting school personnel, including counselors with
    • Calling parents on behalf of teachers or school administrators to communicate regarding student performance or discipline matters
  1. Supporting parents and students in their interactions with school teachers
    • Surveying parents to determine translation needs
    • Scheduling or assisting with scheduling parent-teacher conferences for parents needing translation services
    • Interacting with students and teachers to assist students with language barriers in communicating with teachers

NON-PROGRAM DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Complete other tasks as assigned by the Principal

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
  • Ability to write and speak Spanish (or other world language needed with parent population of the school)
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with teachers, administrators, and students
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents and community members
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities independently and effectively on a daily basis
  • Ability to initiate tasks independently
  • Ability to use discretion and good judgment when working with people
  • Knowledge of school and community resources, including counselor, social worker, and administration
  • Knowledge of Title I-A parent involvement requirements, including the school Parental Involvement Plan, the School Parent-Student Compact, the school's Title I-A Plan, and the Flexible Learning Plan (if applicable)
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, walk and stand. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
