Description IDPR is currently seeking a full-time Trail Equipment Operator to join our Motorized Trail Program. The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation Motorized Trail Program was created in 1970 to ensure quality motorized recreational opportunities remain available by providing for maintenance, education, and enforcement partnerships. The Motorized Trails Program mission is to provide leadership statewide in the area of OHV recreation; to work with land managers to provide maintenance on designated trails, develop new opportunities, provide safety and education classes, and provide comment on all motorized travel planning within Idaho through the use of designated funding. Idaho has one of the largest trail systems in the United States, and you will be an integral part of keeping trails accessible to all users. As a Trail Equipment Operator you will have the opportunity to maintain and construct trails while experiencing the endless breathtaking views Idaho has to offer. If chosen, you will work in a two person crew. Each person will carry a chainsaw, Pulaski, and shovel along with tank bags that carry gas, oil, tools for the saws, and other associated trail maintenance equipment mounted on an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV). On occasion, you may be required to operate, maintain, and repair heavy equipment for IDPR in remote locations for the purpose of maintaining and constructing recreational trails/opportunities. During summer months, this position may require you work eight - ten hour shifts, Wednesday - Wednesday away from the home station. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Design and layout Off-Highway trails on state and federal lands. Construct/maintain summer Off Highway Vehicle trails across a broad spectrum of public lands Requires a knowledge of trail construction techniques, water drainage issues, and state/federal requirements for maintenance/construction specifications Requires the ability to operate multiple pieces of trail-specific heavy equipment for the purposes of public use The remote nature of these efforts also requires the ability of the position to maintain these same vehicles under difficult situations and without the benefit of extensive tools in a shop environment Collect data, inventory, and install directional and regulatory signs on state and federal land Work collaboratively with OHV enthusiast groups statewide to better assess trail needs and to conduct trail maintenance MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Incumbents must obtain a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL A) within 60 days of hire and retain it for the duration of employment, as well as pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing. Good knowledge of safety measures and practices used when operating heavy equipment including trail-specific heavy equipment, snow groomers. Typically gained by at least two years of work experience independently operating heavy equipment including trail-specific heavy equipment and snow groomers.
