Position Tit le: Sr. Linux Engineer Location: Norfolk VA or Reston VA Clearance: TS /SCI Program Description: This program is supporting the DIA ESITA III program. The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) is an intelligence agency and combat support agency of the United States Department of Defense, specializing in defense and military intelligence. The Enterprise Senior Information Technology Advisors (ESITA) program cybersecurity services aim at maintaining and improving the protection of network and communication's infrastructure and applications used by warfighters, policy makers, and acquisition leaders across the DIA. Roles and Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be expected to perform the following responsibilities and tasks: Design, implement, and manage Linux virtual machines in a lab environment.
Participate in the planning of infrastructure on premises in VMWare, but potentially in the cloud, suggesting strategies based on new and emerging technologies.
Take ownership of issues, collaborating with other teams and leads to resolve issues in a timely manner.
Perform routine system maintenance and resolve server-side issues as they arise, including during off-hours and weekends for critical situations.
Manage full system lifecycle, including configuration and code deployment in a test environment.
Document system configurations, processes, and procedures, as well as maintain and update existing documentation as needed.
Mentor other team members in Linux best practices, providing guidance and support when necessary.
Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following qualifications: Possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
Have 12+ years of experience as a Linux Engineer or similar role in a large and complex enterprise environment.
Possess a current DoD 8570 IAT III qualifying certification or the ability to acquire one within a 6-month grace period.
Proficiency in scripting in Bash, Python or Perl.
Have advanced knowledge of Linux distributions such as Red Hat, CentOS, or Debian.
Working knowledge of Linux distributions such as Red Hat, CentOS, or Debian.
Have an understanding and some experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus), management tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef), and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Possess a solid understanding of networking, storage, and virtualization technologies.
Have excellent troubleshooting skills and a strong understanding of system security best practices like applying STIG(s) or Security Templates.
Possess excellent communication and documentation skills, able to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications Certifications relevant to Linux or cloud technologies, such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA)
Demonstrated Knowledge and experience with Linux virtual machines in a VMWare environment.
Experience with Kickstart and automating Linux installations.
Experience operating in a team environment, collaborating in Agile practices, and operating in Sprints or following Scrum/Kanban management processes.
