The Optometrists diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system, including examining eyes and prescribing corrective lenses.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs comprehensive examinations of the visual system to determine the nature or extent of ocular disorders.
Perform vision tests and analyze results.
Diagnose vision problems, such as nearsightedness, or farsightedness, and eye diseases, such as glaucoma Etc.
Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other visual aids.
As permitted by state law, perform minor surgical procedures and prescribe medications to correct or treat visual or eye issues.
Provide treatments such as vision therapy or low vision rehabilitation.
Provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery.
Evaluate patients for the presence of other diseases and conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, and refer patients to other healthcare providers as needed.
Promote eye and general health by counseling patients.
Prescribe medications to treat ocular diseases and disorders.
Perform pre- and post-operation checks.
Documents and evaluates patients' medical histories.
Performs, orders, and interprets results of diagnostic or clinical tests. Provides or directs the provision of postoperative care. Develops treatment plans based on patients' histories and goals, the nature and severity of disorders, and treatment risks and benefits.
Educates patients about maintenance and promotion of healthy vision.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams of health professionals to provide optimal patient care.
Refers patients for more specialized treatments when conditions exceed experience, expertise, or scope of practice of practitioner.

Requirements

Understanding of medical terminology.
Excellent patient care skills.
Strong manual dexterity skills.
Proficiency with modern eye care techniques and equipment
Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain scientific information to patients.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining focus.
Listening skills
Attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

MD or equivalent required.
Two years or more of specialized medical training/experience required.
Board Certified
