Elementary Special Education - Self Contained Behavior Classroom. This is a special education teaching position at the Elementary level for students with behavior and learning challenges that require specifically designed instruction. This position requires a valid Oregon teaching license with a Handicapped Learner endorsement or the ability to obtain one by the beginning of the school year. The position requires the ability to manage student behavior, differentiate instruction, provide transition programming, and the ability to schedule and organize paraprofessionals to facilitate effective instruction and student success. Experience working with children with behavior challenges preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with fellow staff members, students and parents.
  • Adheres to and enforces district, state and federal laws, policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, facilities and school grounds.
  • Teaches District approved curriculum.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Evaluate/assesses students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  • Responds in a cooperative and positive manner to supervision.
  • Upon request, assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings
  • Identifies pupil needs, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of teacher assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work.
