Job Requisition ID: R Job Category: Allied Health Organization: Adult Ambulatory Ophthalmology Location/s: Main Campus Jackson Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician-Ophthalmology-Lakeland Job Summary: TO PERFORM OPHTHALMIC PROCEDURES UNDER THE DIRECTION AND/OR SUPERVISION OF A QUALIFIED OPHTHALMIC TECH AND OPHTHALMOLOGIST. TO CONDUCT PATIENT SCREENING, DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, PATIENT EDUCATION, AND PERFORM ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES. Education & Experience MUST HAVE GRADUATED FROM AN ACCREDITED OPHTHALMIC PROGRAM, OR HAVE HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA/GED AND ONE (1) YEARS OF RELATED EXPERIENCE. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED: NA Knowledge, Skills & Abilities KNOWLEDGE OF HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY, OCULAR ANATOMY, OPHTHALMIC PHARMACOLOGY, OCULAR MOTILITY AND DISEASES OF THE EYE. KNOWLEDGE OF DIAGNOSTIC AND TREATMENT PROCEDURES INCLUDING VISUAL FIELD TESTING, CONTACT LENSES, OPHTHALMIC SURGERY, AND THE CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF OPHTHALMIC INSTRUMENTS AND EQUIPMENT. VERBAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS. ABILITY TO OPERATE OPHTHALMIC EQUIPMENT AND ADMINISTER PRELIMINARY SCREENING EXAMINATIONS. RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMS PATIENT WORK-UPS AND AMBULATORY OPHTHALMIC DIAGNOSTIC TESTING UNDER THE SUPERVISON OF THE OPHTHALMOLOGIST TAKES ANATOMICAL AND FUNCTIONAL OCULAR MEASUREMENTS; TESTS OCULAR FUNCTIONS SUCH AS VISUAL ACUITY, VISUAL FIELDS, LENSOMETRY, TONOMETRY, KERATOMETRY READINGS, CORNEAL TOPOGRAPHY, STRABISMUS MEASUREMENTS, RETINOSCOPY, AND/OR REFINEMENT AND SENSORIMOTOR FUNCTIONS. ADMINISTRATION OF TOPICAL OPHTHALMIC MEDICATIONS AS DIRECTED WITH SUPERVISION BY THE OPHTHALMOLOGIST ASSISTS IN AMBULATORY CLINIC OPHTHALMIC SURGERY/PROCEDURES; STERILIZATION AND MAINTAING OF OPHTHALMIC INSTRUMENTS WITH SUPERVISION. NDER THE DIRECTION OF OPHTHALMOLOGIST PERFORMS ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES SUCH AS SCHEDULING PATIENT REFERRAL APPOINTMENTS, TAKING PATIENT HISTORIES, ANSWERING TELEPHONES, AND FORWARDING CORRESPONDENCE PERFORMS ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES SUCH AS SCHEDULING PATIENT APPOINTMENTS, TAKING PATIENT HISTORIES, ANSWERING TELEPHONES, AND FORWARDING CORRESPONDENCE. PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. Physical and Environmental Demands Requires frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and constant walking.
