SUMMARY The primary purpose of this position is to replace Process, Dryer and Packaging and ensure production of a quality yeast extract product by following established procedures and performs various sanitation duties. This requires a wide range of knowledge and skills, many of which can be learned on the job. The Relief Operator reports directly to the Supervisor. He may also receive direction from Superintendent or other management personnel as required. WORK SCHEDULE When covering for an Operator, the daily work schedule will be the work schedule of the replaced Operator. Before the end of every week, the relief supervisor will provide a work schedule for the next week for replacement coverage which is known at that time and for working in the regular (non-replacement) position of Relief Operator. In additions this position will respond for replacement coverage on a 36-hour call-in basis. If given 36 hours or more advance notice of the need for the Relief Operator; the employee is required to report to work. If given less than 36 hours notice the Relief Operator will have the right to refuse the request. The Relief Operator will also have the right to reserve 13 weekends per year when he will not have to report to work. These weekends must be reserved 2 months in advance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned depending upon operational needs The production of yeast extract products requires flexibility on the part of all personnel as operations change depending upon the needs of the customer. This will require a Relief Operator to train and work in other departments on a periodic basis in order to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner. Job Responsibilities Perform sanitation on equipment, infrastructure, grounds, and other assigned areas. Understand and follow established safety, GMP, food safety, and other rules of the plant as well as general company policies. Notify Supervisor of equipment failures and when major process problems or variations in the process are detected. Communicate and interact with other employees and management personnel in a respectful and effective manner. Learn all equipment in Process and Drying. Cover shifts as scheduled. Train and work in other departments in the facility as needed. This may include, cleaning and filling in for various absences throughout the facility. Work is assigned depending upon operational needs. When covering for a Process Operator: Follow established process and CIP procedures, make adjustments on the processes or processing equipments, manually or through a central processing computer. Follow production schedule. Record and maintain accurate written and electronic information for autolysis, separation, filtration, concentration and CIP's, or any other document required by the company to regulate parameters, procedures and equipments through basic analysis, simple calculations and computer controls. Responsible for reading and understanding material safety data for chemicals or ingredients used in the process. Follow all procedures/precautions when adding or working around chemicals or ingredients. When covering for a Dryer Operator: Monitor quality assurance controls during the production process. For example, product analysis, weight checks, and code date verifications are performed on a routine basis to ensure the customer receives a quality product. Record and maintain accurate written and electronic information. Operate packing line safely and efficiently. Inspect dryer infrastructure, monitor dryer equipment and notify management when maintenance is required. Assist in trouble-shooting of equipment and process problems.
