Organization: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California's mission is to provide comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California. We do this by providing services through seven Ronald McDonald House Programs, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, three in-hospital family rooms. Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times was founded in 1982 to create a positive, long-lasting impact on children with cancer and their families by providing cost-free, medically supported year-round camp programs.

Summary: The Operations Director is responsible for providing the strategic leadership of the Apple Canyon Center. The Operations Director works with and supports the Executive Director (ED) and Camp Board of Trustees to define the Camp's priorities and evaluate effectiveness based on the organization's vision, mission, goals, and outcomes. Additionally, the Operations Director is responsible for managing all the Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times property and facilities to ensure all are well maintained and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and American Camp Association (ACA) Standards. They are responsible for monitoring the Contracted Project Manager, who will lead camp facility development, including capital projects. The position supervises the Site and Facilities Department, consisting of an Operations Manager, an Operations Associate, and a Seasonal Operations Associate, emphasizing and modeling core values of compassion, integrity, respect, innovation, and transparency. The position also supervises the contracted Food Service Manager.

Responsibilities Responsibilities:
Reporting to the ED of Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, the Operations Director - Site will have the following responsibilities:
  • Working in partnership with the ED and Camp Board of Trustees, create strategic goals and implement processes and approaches to achieve them.
  • Provide leadership and knowledge to help advance facility management excellence in meeting the organization's vision, mission and goals.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in nonprofit management and facility operations.
  • Ensure facility operations meet or exceed required federal, state, local laws and regulations and industry accreditation standards.
  • Lead and manage the following responsibilities:
o Site Development and Operations:
  • Lead development and execution of a facility business plan to maximize the use of the camp facility in accordance with organizational program and financial goals; maintain site Master Plan.
  • Works with Camp Director to ensure the site is prepared for CRMfGT & user group program delivery.
  • Define and monitor crisis management plan, including emergency procedures.
  • Lead planning of the development and renovation of site and buildings that will facilitate program needs now and in the future.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and support safe working practices with co-workers, volunteers, and when executing job functions.
  • In coordination with Camp ED, oversee new facility construction process and ensure appropriate resources to secure permits, manage the project and work within available resources.
  • Oversee the maintenance of grounds, facilities, equipment, and materials to meet or exceed requirements and standards of the county, state, and federal authorities, and the American Camp Association.
  • Lead member of Camp Emergency Response Team (CRMDFGT & Rental Groups).
  • Oversee the security of the Apple Canyon Center.
  • Lead organization, and execution of facility maintenance and upgrade work work-end events utilizing volunteers.
  • Support the development of a culture of philanthropy amongst all constituents (campers, families, volunteers, vendors, and the community).
  • Take lead role in identifying and soliciting requests for in-kind donations for construction, equipment and furnishings for camp's facilities.
  • Support and promote all organizational fundraising events activities on and off site.
  • Support administrative aspects including proposal presentation and grant writing.
o Finance and Human Resources:
  • Work with the ED to build a unified organization that engages program, development, and other office staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee personnel training and performance management.
  • Encourage staff and volunteer professional, personal development, and education.
  • Support the Executive Director in developing financial plans and site/capital and program budgets.
  • Work with ED on insurance, tax, and other financial matters as needed.
  • Support ED in developing financial plans and site/capital and program budgets.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility for site and construction budgets.
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree with at least 7 to 10 years experience in senior-level management and facilities oversight. Prior Camp facility management and supervision experiences are required and prior work with children with special needs is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:
General knowledge and demonstrated experience with office management; knowledge of the organizations and operations of administrative programs; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other management staff, employees, and the general public; ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Operations Staff - Operation Manager, Operation Associate, Seasonal Operations Staff, Facility Project Manager (contracted), and Food Service Manager (contracted).

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as annual budget needs.

Reasoning Ability:
Solve problems with a variety of concrete variables and limited standardization. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook

Time Management Skills:

• Ability to determine the approximate time and staff resources necessary to complete projects.
