Job Description

AECOM is seeking a creative, talented Environmental Technician for immediate employment based from BNSF Railway in Newton, KS Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) operations. This role will perform compliance inspections at various sites in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Duties include the following:

Operating the WWTP to meet the required discharge limits during routine influent and treatment conditions outlined in the municipal permit.

Operating the WWTP in a safe and professional manner, including maintaining required training and certifications including e- RAILSAFE, Contractor Orientation, and Roadway Worker Protection.

Confirming proper operation and testing of the WWTP after repairs, maintenance or cleaning.

Participating in BNSF Bi-Monthly WWTP Operator calls, and annual BNSF WW Conference.

Perform all inspections utilizing the BNSF's EAM system.

Perform routine cleaning of the DAF associated with WWTP operations.

Coordinating and/or assisting with WWTP repairs, maintenance, and cleaning utilizing the EAM system.

Read, understand, and follow published test methods and standard operating procedures, including company and client specific programs.

Produce accurate and complete documentation of operation, inspections and compliance according to standard operating procedures.

Show initiative in maintaining and repairing equipment, ordering and organizing supplies and maintaining work area.

Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

Identifies discrepancies in results.

Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

Effectively work both independently and in a team environment.

Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements.

Perform SPCC, SWPPP, and RCRA inspections at various locations in OR and southern WA.

Keep well organized files and documentation to meet regulatory requirements.

Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.

May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for supervisor, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.

Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.

Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.

Participate in other environment-related projects and tasks as required, and support WWTP operations at other client facilities under direction of staff as necessary.

Knowledge of environmental regulations, practices and procedures; recognizes differences or changes that would indicate the need for attention. Receives and maintains required safety training including OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER Training with annual 8-hr refresher, 30-hr OSHA Training, client-specific training and regulatory specific training.
