Occupational Therapist

Location: Batavia NY

Shift: 8 hours per week

Expectation of 8 hours per week (virtual and in-person). Schedule to be determined based on student needs. In-person requirements would only occur on Fridays.

Must possess a License to practice as an Occupational Therapist and one year of post-licensure occupational therapy experience and minimum one-year supervising OTA's. Preferred qualifications include working with multiply disabled children and/or children with visual impairments and experience in a school setting. Demonstration of preferred qualifications must be clear on the candidate's resume (years of experience, employer and description of services provided).

Job expectations include: Sign session notes and quarterlies. Perform re-evaluations and write reports. Add information into IEP direct. Classroom consultation. Monitor scripts. Justifications and recommendations for purchasing specialized equipment for classrooms. Caseload management.

Full position scope:

Reviews medical records and past treatment and confers with other service providers and Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) members.

• Occupational Therapist works as a member of the MDT. The purpose of MDT is to ensure an integrated multidisciplinary approach to student care, including treatment planning and implementation. Members of the MDT may be called upon to coordinate the care and care planning of any of the individuals served by the school. This may include completing treatment planning documents, review of student medical records, and discussions with other members of the team.
• Interviews individuals, family, and caregivers to evaluate current functional level and to determine rehabilitation plan for treatment.
• Selects, administers and scores written and performance evaluations and assessments to determine present level of functioning in such areas as performing the activities of daily living, strength and dexterity, gross and fine motor skills, interpersonal relations, communications, memory, coordination, and perceptual and problem solving skills and interprets test results.

Develops treatment plans describing the treatment strategy, purpose, and anticipated outcomes.

• Determines need for adaptive equipment and other aids to improve functional skills and abilities and may design, adapt, and fabricate such aids.
• Selects individual and group treatment interventions that assist students to attain their therapeutic goals.
• Makes follow up treatment intervention recommendations to be implemented by the individual family, caregivers, and/or direct care staff.

Supervises and conducts occupational therapy activities.

• Plans individual treatment interventions, and determines equipment, supplies, space, and staff needed to implement them.
• Instructs students and direct care staff on use of adaptive techniques and equipment.
• Administers and monitors specific treatment modalities, such as sensory integration, relaxation facilitation, and neurodevelopmental techniques.
• Instructs individuals in the development of the skills and techniques needed to participate in social and rehabilitation activities, performing activities of daily living, and learning skills consistent with learning style.
• Motivates and assists individuals in participating in therapy treatment interventions.
