Woman's Med-Surg/Oncology Unit is a 36 bed unit that cares for adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical needs including but not limited to surgical oncology for gynecologic and breast cancers, complications of cancer therapy, surgical interventions, Bariatric, General and Plastic Surgeries, Infusion therapy and treatment of a variety of other medical and surgical conditions. Our team of doctors, specialists, surgeons, nurses, social workers, dieticians and caregivers are backed by the latest in surgical interventions, research and advanced medical treatments. Woman's creates a compassionate, supportive, safe and therapeutic environment for patients, families and staff. The Nursing Assistant patient ratio is a maximum of 1 to 12 patients, with average being 1 to 8 patients.

Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in a hospital/acute care setting highly preferred
  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant or have a minimum of 3 years of direct patient care in a hospital/acute care setting.

Responsibilities of the Nursing Assistant position include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifies and prioritizes nursing/department activities and performs the necessary tasks within a reasonable time frame and on the basis of task priority, reassessing priorities throughout the shift as circumstances warrant.
  • Checks and monitors supplies and forms and restocks as necessary in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicates pertinent information regarding unit and patient status, problems and anticipated problems in an accurate, complete, concise, timely and courteous manner, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maintains necessary skills and flexibility to perform nursing assistant duties. Works as a team player.
  • Is readily available and accessible to nursing staff, keeps nurse informed when leaving the unit for errands and/or breaks, maintains timely and appropriate work breaks.
  • Carries out delegated patient care activities, i.e., recording I&O, ambulating patients, assisting with nutritional needs, etc.
  • Provides complete personal hygiene to the patient, i.e., oral care, bathing, dressing, perineal care, and other physical comfort measures.
  • Performs skills specific to the unit, i.e., TPR, removing foley catheters, obtaining specimens, and preparing patients for surgery according to hospital procedures, nursing care standards, and as delegated by the nurse.
  • Identifies and responds to patients' needs and problems in a timely, courteous manner.
  • Maintains a clean work area/unit, collecting and disposing of soiled items. Cleans, stores, and returns equipment to Central Services in a timely manner and according to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Transcribes physician's orders from chart to MAR and Kardex and enters department requests. Prepares charts for admits and discharges.
  • Performs specifically assigned duties, such as delivering/receiving of blood, specimens and medications, ordering doctors' orders, checking/restocking treatment room, maintaining current doctor information, ordering office supplies, pamphlets.
  • Enters patient charges into computer every shift, i.e., stock medications, equipment usage, outpatient hours, patient supplies and treatment related charges.
  • Support and uphold the mission, vision, and values of Woman's.

Hours

Days; three 8-hour shifts per week (6:45am-3:15pm) per week; one to two weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.

Pay

$10.61 - $14.99 plus applicable shift differentials
