DESCRIPTION:

The Tribal Nursery Crew Heavy Equipment Trainee will assist with JW Toumey Nursery functions under the Scope of Work of the GeteMiinikaanan partnership project with the Ottawa National Forest.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the Tribal Nursery Crew and Ethnobotanist as needed.

Operates motor vehicles and heavy equipment in support of nursery operations.

Maintains motor vehicles and heavy equipment.

Operates and maintains heavy duty power mowers, weed trimmers, tillers, chain saws, pallet jacks, snow blowers, high-pressure sprayers, jackhammers, floor buffers, steam cleaners, etc.

Clears brush, cuts trees, digs ditches, back fills, digs post holes, clears ground, replaces barriers, paints and stains.

Packs, loads, and unloads heavy bulky materials, equipment, and boxes for the facility.

Moves heavy freight, furniture, machinery, supplies, equipment, and other very heavy items by hand or with equipment to stack and store.

Completes all other duties as assigned by the LVD Ethnobotanist, Nursery Managers, including the Lead Horticulturist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Must have knowledge of the Lac Vieux Desert Ojibwe people and their spiritual, traditional, historical, and ancestral ties of the community, while also agreeing not to publish or otherwise distribute culturally sensitive information to the public without proper consent.

Knowledge and understanding of missions, organizational goals, and objectives of the Tribe.

Must be willing to work outdoors and in the field daily.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

The applicant must be insurable under the tribes' insurance as well and must pass a background check as well as a pre-employment drug test.
