POSITION SUMMARY

Registered Nurses will deliver care throughout Wellbridge and are responsible for the day-to-day nursing requirements of a licensed inpatient medically supervised stabilization and withdrawal program, rehabilitation program and reintegration program. Carries out the Wellbridge vision, values and overall strategic planning, clinical management, patient care, budgeting, financial management and quality management. Promotes service standards and creates a patient-focused caring environment while addressing and meeting the individual needs of all patients. Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect with physician colleagues, nurses and other healthcare team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assume the charge nurse role if applicable and/or unit nurse role by:
    1. Receiving and giving accurate and thorough shift reports
    2. Keeping the physicians informed of patient's conditions, change of conditions, LOC and triage information and needs
    3. Correctly entering and taking off physician orders
    4. Oversight of the care of patients by auxiliary personnel
    5. Organizing and delegating patient care activities
    6. Monitoring and/or performing diagnostic screening tests as ordered by physician
    7. Providing thorough and accurate patient information during shift exchange for end of shift report
  1. Assess individual patient care needs, initiate medical treatment plan and competently implement/instruct all care in the appropriate nursing practice to all staff.
  2. Serve as a resource to treatment team members.
  3. Perform nursing assessments, LOC, and review patient histories to document all necessary information in the Electronic Medical Record on all patients admitted to Wellbridge.
  4. Prepare patients for examinations: height/weight, vitals, collect and process lab specimens following proper infection control procedures.
  5. Utilize safe and effective practices of medication management as defined by policy including the oversight of self-administration observation of medication.
  6. Administer and monitor the effects of medications, ensure accurate medication is ordered and administered for controlled substances and conduct accurate med counts.
  7. Provide appropriate patient education as determined by patient assessments/needs and treatment plans.
  8. Conduct meetings with patients for assigned units when in unit nurse role.
  9. Monitor and/or perform withdrawal assessments and appropriately implement/instruct the necessary nursing interventions.
  10. Accurately and thoroughly document in the medical record utilizing approved medical record language and abbreviations adhering to the medical record policies and procedures.
  11. Schedule all patient appointments related to their medical treatment.
  12. Work a flexible schedule based upon service demands and work mandatory overtime as needed.
  13. Attend all mandatory trainings as identified by Wellbridge policies.
  14. Attend multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings when in unit nurse role.
  15. Maintain the quality control logs.
  16. Provide support services for patient care issues to staff at other Caron facilities.
  17. Maintain adequate staffing for each shift.
  18. Ensure the highest level of professionalism for self and staff and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  19. Complete yearly training requirements and mentor new employees.

Physical Requirements
  1. Lifting: up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  2. Standing: up to several hours at a time, this may include walking, climbing steps, and descending steps.
  3. Walking: must be able to ambulate throughout the assigned facilities on campus or Caron properties.
  4. Sitting: up to several hours at a time for data entry into the computer or medical record documentation

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Currently licensed as an RN in the State of New York
  2. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
  3. 1-3 years' experience working as an RN preferably in SUD, ER, acute care or mental health setting
  4. BLS, required; ACLS or other certification, as required by department. Certification must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
  1. Clinical competences in phlebotomy and point-of-care (POC) testing
  2. Familiarity with all relevant healthcare standards: OASAS, ASAM, JCAHO, etc.
  3. Demonstrated communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  4. Previous hospital/chemical dependency rehabilitation treatment program experience desired.
  1. Possess a working knowledge of addictions with age specific patient populations preferred.
  2. Working knowledge of electronic medical record and charting
