RN annual salary range for FTA: $68,480-$114,140

Position hours: Monday - Friday (shifts vary 7a-3p, 8a-5p, 9a-6p)

Job Summary: The Nurse provides supervision of administration & control of medications, health care services to program clients, as needed; and assists clinical staff with the development of treatment goals that pertain to medical issues. The nurse educates both staff and program members on health issues and assists in the development of agency policy with regard to health issues. Success is a result of innovation and creativeness, flexibility, and a willingness to apply learned practices and experiences effectively. Flexibility and effective time management practices are essential. This position calls for self-confidence, creativity, and the ability to exercise individual discretion or judgment. Sound organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks are a must.

Duties & Responsibilities Include, but not limited to:
  1. Conduct medication audits and ensure compliance with internal medication and health care policies. RN will monitor compliance of other staff (including LPN, if applicable) with these policies.
  2. Monitor client self-administration of medication as appropriate.
  3. Train staff on monitoring client medication self-administration.
  4. Set up client accounts with the preferred pharmacy and monitor their usage for accuracy.
  5. Assist clients in obtaining new medications and refills.
  6. Collect medication co-pays from clients, submit payment to the business office, and reconcile payment accounts monthly.
  7. Inventory and maintain facility medical supplies and first aid kits. Document findings in medication audits.
  8. Conduct client health assessments.
  9. Provide health care services to program clients, as needed.
  10. Develop medical/health plans with clients. Follow-up regarding care and provide updated recommendations, as necessary.
  11. Communicate client conditions/medical concerns to the treatment team and document recommendations and care provided.
  12. Dispose of medications, narcotics, and sharps containers per agency and community policies.
  13. Secure coverage for health care lectures during RN absence.
  14. Educate clients on health care issues.
  15. Make appropriate and timely medical/dental/health referrals when necessary.
  16. Consult with treatment team regarding clinical health issues and medication concerns.
  17. Assist clinical staff by screening potential client for program (in relation to health related issues).
  18. Collaborate with external health professionals regarding client care.
  19. Assist clients in scheduling necessary health appointments.
  20. Attend staff meetings and clinical meetings.
  21. As appropriate, conduct Mantoux tests with clients and staff in accordance with applicable licensing regulations.
  22. With another employee present, destroy and document controlled substances (narcotics) that remain in facility following client discharge.
  23. Make appropriate and timely referrals when necessary.
  24. Adhere to applicable laws, regulations and agency policies related to the protection of client confidentiality.
  25. Address and/or follow-up on client medical emergencies. Document recommendations on all medical related incident reports.
  26. Report vulnerable adult concerns to Program Manager or external "common entry point."
  27. Attain, maintain and promote a positive, safe, harmonious, productive and challenging work environment.
  28. Participate in continuing education and training in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and agency policies.
  29. Perform other tasks/duties as assigned by supervisor or management.


Requirements

Qualifications:
  • LPN or RN with valid Minnesota State nursing license (RN preferred).
  • 2 years of psychiatric or chemical dependency nursing experience preferred.
  • Must have completed or obtain 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health problems and substance use disorder or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of chemical dependency treatment continuum.
  • Must be able to pass DHS Rule 11 background check.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid training or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to structure time well and develop priorities.
  • Current two step Mantoux/Tuberculosis Skin Test, TB Gold test or ability to obtain.
  • Minimum 2-yrs free from chemical use problems, if applicable.
  • Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.

Physical Requirements: Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Ability to communicate, converse with and exchange information.
