Job Description:

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Fayetteville VA Medical Center are seeking experienced and dedicated Nurse Practitioners to provide on-site staffing services. The ideal candidate will deliver Family Practice services of the highest quality, meeting or exceeding national standards as established by the American College of Family Practice (ACC), The Joint Commission (TJC), and the American Hospital Association (AHA).

Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care (95%):

  • Provide comprehensive Family Practice services including assessment, diagnostic work-up, and clinic intervention.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, health histories, physical examinations, and patient education.
  • Manage outpatient services for both scheduled and unscheduled Veterans.
  • Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, recommend treatments, and/or make referrals as appropriate.
  • Document all patient interactions, assessments, and care plans in the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS) on the day of the encounter.
  • Ensure timely follow-up of labs, imaging, and procedures ordered during clinic appointments.
  • Provide phone consultation for inpatients as needed.
  • Be available for case reviews with other nurse practitioners on service.

Clinic Responsibilities:

  • Be present and on time for clinic start times.
  • Establish mechanisms for timely notification of test results in accordance with VHA Directive 1088.
  • Adhere to all established medication policies and procedures, avoiding the provision of sample medications.
  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients.

Administrative Duties (5%):

  • Attend section meetings, participate in peer reviews, ongoing provider performance evaluations, and morbidity & mortality conferences as required.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and committee meetings as required by facility leadership.
  • Attend staff meetings as required and communicate with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) regarding any conflicts.
  • Complete appropriate quality management/performance improvement documentation for all procedures and outcomes.
  • Follow established patient safety and infection control standards to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injuries.
  • Document and report any patient safety incidents or breaches within 24 hours, and submit entries to the VA Patient Safety Reporting System.
Requirements:
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Family Practice.
  • Licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Strong commitment to providing high-quality care to Veterans.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Compliance with all VA policies, procedures, and training requirements.
Benefits:
