Summary This position is located at one of the Service Units under the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, in the Division of Nursing Services. The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive level of monitoring and administration of nursing care, therapies and treatments. Videos Help Duties Performs professional nursing duties in the care of medical and surgical for patients whose condition warrants specialized care of a wide variety of injuries and illness. Assesses and develops an individualized nursing plan of care through interview, reviews patient's health record and consults with physician, determines and evaluates appropriate type of physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural care needed. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by physician to include but not limited to medication administration, intravenous fluids and blood transfusions treatments and maintains those measures taken on an ongoing nature. Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered and status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professionals. Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in nursing practice through continuing education for unit specific certifications of Basic Life Support (BLS), encourages Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and other recognized certification. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: All applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07: Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision -OR- Possess of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level) -OR- Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience; -OR- Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing professional nursing care to patients, reviewing medical records and administering medication in accordance with instructions, and assisting physicians with procedures. GS-09: Candidates must possess a master's degree in professional nursing; -OR- Have at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients; knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life saving procedures; providing counseling, guidance and health instruction to patients; and identifying disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required.
