Videos Help Duties Observes and assesses the patient's clinical condition, collects and interprets data from the patient's history and physical assessments including labs and screening data. Assess and treats minor health problems, such as colds, impetigo, cuts and bruises according to standing orders. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, and treatments. Teaches and educates patients and families on available resources and coordinates appointments with social, emotional, cultural, spiritual, and physical support. Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in Pediatric nursing knowledge and practice through continuing education to include; Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), attends staff meeting, outside workshops, and/or professional nursing conferences, participates. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07: In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision or Possess of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level). Examples of experience include: Performing comprehensive professional nursing duties for adolescents, children, infant, and neonatal patients including high-risks care, assessing patients and develops a plan of care. Consults with physicians and other health care members to develop a multidisciplinary approach for the care of the pediatric patient. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribe by the physician to include medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, and treatments. Educates patients and their families on available resources and coordinates appointments. or Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience; or Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. GS-09 Grade Level: To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must meet one of the following qualification requirements: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or above and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in human behavior and the ability to communicate with and provide nursing services to patients; experience in the techniques and the operational mechanics of medical equipment; experience with accurately transcribing physician's orders, performing health assessments and accurately documenting in patient's medical record; experience with pharmacology of a wide variety of drugs, dosages, routes of administration, therapeutic action, drug interactions, and adverse reactions.
