This position directs a comprehensive hospital-wide infection control program, develop and implement Infection Control policies and procedures, assures infection surveillance program plans are in compliance with The Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies. Provides supervision to the Environmental Services department. This position reports to the Supervisory Health System Specialist (Quality Manager). Directs a comprehensive hospital-wide infection control program. Develops infection control policies and procedures. Participates in formal strategic and operation planning for infection control services. Monitors and documents surveillance/performance improvement activities to ensure compliance with the standards. Makes regular scheduled and impromptu rounds in addition to the tracer rounds to assure staff are up-to-date and complaint with infection prevention issues. Assures infection surveillance program plans are in compliance with The Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies. Provides supervision to the Environmental Services Department. Assist the Environmental Services supervisor to develop and implement a fully functional infection control program. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-11. Professional Nursing Experience: Experience developing policies and procedures for infection control to ensure compliance with accrediting agencies. Experience in identifying, reporting, preventing and controlling hospital acquired infections. Experience in monitoring and documenting surveillance/performance improvement activities to ensure compliance with the standards. Makes regular schedule and impromptu rounds in addition to the tracer rounds to assure staff are up-to-date and compliant with infection prevention issues. Experience conducting educational training on infection prevention in a large group setting. Experience providing oversight, direction and coordination of projects and investigations related to infection control services. Experience in preparing written reports.
