Summary This position is located in the Emergency Room of the Kayenta Service Unit, Kayenta, AZ or Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup, NM. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician such as medications, treatments, intravenous fluids, blood transfusion, nasogastric tubes, and other diagnostic interventions. Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, hemodynamic monitoring data, and other relevant data to the patient's care. Operates and monitors specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, volume respirators, EKG machines, gastric and thoracic suction units, cardiac pacemakers, hypothermic devices, peritoneal lavage, defibrillator, non-stress test machine, infant warmer, etc. Observes, assesses and stabilizes critically ill pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient's health status by physical assessment and examination, interviewing patient and family members and reviewing patient's health history and on-going hemodynamic monitoring, Stabilizes for transport to other facilities as necessary. Collaborates with members of the multi-disciplinary team in assessing, plannning, implementing and evaluating health care. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Basic Requirements for the GS-5 (or equivalent) Grade Level To qualify at the GS-5 (or equivalent) grade level, applicants must meet one of the following qualification requirements: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience. OR Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and one full year of professional nursing experience - development and implementation of a plan of care for assigned patients and providing nursing interventions based on established plan of care and evaluating effectiveness. Basic Requirements for the GS-7 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the above Basic Requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision; OR Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level: Experience providing professional nursing care to patients, reviewing medical records and administering medication in accordance with instructions, and assisting physicians with procedures). OR Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience. Experience in assessing clinical conditions, recognizing and identifying serious situations, prioritizing, and immediately using clinical judgement in deciding upon proper action, for example, to inform physician and take preplanned measures and/or consulting with charge nurse or preceptor when patient condition warrant. OR Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.
