Primary responsibilities include assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an organized program for staff education, directed toward the achievement of professional excellence and will report directly to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse. The Nurse Educator confers with the Director of Nursing and gathers information from Nurse Supervisors to develop a well rounded program to strengthen employee's knowledge and skills. Conducts annual needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools, analyzes and reports the results, and develops plan for implementation of the results. Develops clinical orientation programs to prepare employees for their assigned duties and responsibilities. Supports staff development with educational activities, including remediation, certification, mentoring, life support, JCAHO requirements, including continuing education credit, clinical affiliations, nurse residency etc. Maintain current knowledge and skills for educational and other health related theories and techniques. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below: MINIMUM MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Utilizes existing and self-developed teaching tools and course material and class population and consults with other members of the educational department team for their input into specialized training programs. Assesses learning and training needs of newly licensed nursing staff and contract/agency staff utilizing a variety of tools from which recommendations for in-service education, specialized training, individualized training, and new and improve training programs can be made. Collects and organizes data obtained from assessment methods. Teaches and/or directs and coordinates others to teach utilizing new or adapted approaches, Utilizes appropriate teaching methodology and leveling techniques to ensure course effectiveness and proper learner responses.
