The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine is seeking a Nurse Coordinator to work in the Department of Neurology, Movement Disorders Division. The Department of Neurology provides evaluation, treatment, and care for patients suffering from a wide range of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and migraine. We provide care through our inpatient and consultative services, our designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, our Level 4 Epilepsy Center, our 22-bed Neuro-Critical Care Unit, and our busy outpatient practice. The Department also provides state-of-the-art rehabilitation services. A number of departmental faculty received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Veteran's Administration to study the role of genetics in stroke, epilepsy, and Parkinson's disease, new brain imaging modalities in multiple sclerosis, biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disability. Many faculty are lead investigators in clinical trials to identify new therapeutic approaches for a broad range of neurological disorders. The Nurse Coordinator will be involved in the surgical program in the Movement Disorders division, including the following procedures: Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Focused Ultrasound (FUS). This role includes being trained in the electronic programming of implanted computer-driven pulse generators and coordinating/presenting patient education sessions describing DBS and FUS for Parkinson's disease, Essential Tremor and Dystonia. The Nurse Coordinator will have the opportunity to interact with students, residents, fellows and physicians within the University system and the broader community. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for success in this role, as the candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for patients. Additionally, proficiency in computer skills is highly desired to facilitate the creation of a comprehensive database for pre- and post-surgery data outcomes Employees whose job duties require them to work in clinical settings or at clinical or field sites continue to be subject to the vaccine requirements of those sites. Essential Functions: Perform electronic programming of implanted computer driven pulse generator. Coordinates and presents patient education sessions for DBS and FUS Serve as nurse educator for the Movement Disorders division. Plan and deliver monthly community educational programs at the University to outline the processes required for DBS surgery. Develop and present quarterly educational community education sessions throughout the Delaware/Maryland/Washington DC area to outline the process of DBS surgery. Trains new fellows on electronic programming of computer-driven pulse generators Create and maintain database for pre- and post-surgery data outcomes Accompanying Deep Brain Stimulation patients in the operating room to provide support and education. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education :Bachelors in Nursing Experience :Five (5) yearsexperience as a registered nurse. Supervisory : Experience in patient or project management. Licensure/Certification: Maryland licensed registered nurse.
