Job Summary Operates nuclear detection and imaging equipment and prepares radiopharmaceuticals for routine nuclear radiologic studies, with the aid of the senior or lead technologist as needed, to produce images for the interpretation by, and at the request of, a licensed practitioner. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Completes work in an independent, professional manner with minimal supervision. Essential Functions With the aid of the Technologist 2 or Lead Technologist as needed, operates nuclear detection, imaging, and computer processing equipment for nuclear radiologic studies by following professional, hospital and regulatory protocols to provide physicians' with diagnostic images utilized to identify and / or plan appropriate patient treatment. Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to established procedures for preparation of kits and intravenous (IV) injection of agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing and/or imaging. Monitors and records radiation levels in hot lab, scan room, storage areas and patient rooms. Adheres to standards for radiation safety and for appropriate waste separation and disposal of radioactive agents by performing specific governmental mandates. Maintains imaging, hot lab, radiopharmaceuticals and processing equipment by performing quality control tests and checking equipment performance and quality of agents administered in accordance with department and regulation standards to ensure patient safety. Contacts service personnel and notifies management of malfunctioning equipment. Finishes all studies in the computerized medical record system and picture archiving and communication system (PACS) in a timely manner. Responsible for appropriate documentation. Assignments are routine; follows established protocols. Works under close supervision, seeks guidance where needed; requires some instruction on day-to-day work and resolves routine problems.
