We are seeking a dedicated Locum Tenens Inpatient Oncology Physician to join our dynamic healthcare team. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in managing a diverse range of oncology cases, focusing on leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, amyloid, and stem cell harvest patients admitted to the inpatient service. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for various duties and responsibilities, ensuring the highest standard of patient care.

Job Details

1-2 weekends per month. (Saturday and Sunday 12 hour days)

Responsibilities:

Patient Management:
Oversee the care of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, amyloid, and stem cell harvest admitted to the inpatient service.
Manage daily labs, vitals, transfusions, and electrolyte replacement.

Oncologic Emergencies and Complications:
Handle acute oncologic emergencies and complications of malignancies.
Address complications of relapsed disease and manage chemotherapy side effects.

Admissions and Discharges:
Admit and discharge patients efficiently, ensuring a smooth transition of care.

Collaborative Care:
Work closely with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate discharge plans for patients, involving social work, PT/OT, consult services, nursing staff, patient placement, fellows, residents, pharmacists, multiple attendings, and outpatient teams.

Procedures:
Perform bone marrow biopsies and skin punch biopsies as part of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Patient Presentation and Coordination:
Present patients to attending physicians and coordinate care plans with pharmacists and the broader care team.
Consult specialty services as needed to optimize patient care.

Communication and Handoff:
Answer pages from nursing staff and ensure effective communication during handoffs to morning and night APP coverage.
Manage the movement of patients from the Emergency Department and two teaching services.

End-of-Life Care and Family Communication:
Provide compassionate end-of-life care.
Conduct goals of care discussions and communicate updates to family members.
Educate patients and families about malignancy, treatments, health status updates, and safe home practices.
