PRIMARY FUNCTION
The BLS Driver operates a basic life support unit and will be responsible for assisting Hart to Heart's EMS crews in moving patients while utilizing special EMS equipment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive basic life support unit to provide timely transport of patients.
Provide assistance to MD certified Emergency Medical crews.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Secure all specialized equipment at the completion of each shift which will include but is not limited to: detaching batteries for any power equipment and placing them on the appropriate charger.
Comply with all safety guidelines and recognize and promptly report unsafe situations.
Operate assigned vehicles safely in accordance with applicable traffic laws and company policy.
Inspect/ensure readiness of assigned vehicles at the beginning and end of each shift.
Clean and fuel assigned vehicles and care for and maintain, within reason, equipment and assigned apparatus, reporting deficiencies to proper personnel.
Maintain a request log and submit to the attention to the Operations Supervisor each night at the completion of shift.
Ability to successfully store and use: Power Stair Chair, Reeves Stretcher Device, Long Backboard Device and Set of 9 Foot Straps.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) For-Hire Driver's License
Healthcare Provider CPR certification
Driver's license with safe driving record and no more than 2 points
Ability to efficiently and effectively operate current technologies including, but not limited to, a computer, GPS unit, two-way radio, and tablet device
Ability to safely lift up to 300 pounds with partner
Ability to pass a drug screen, criminal background check, and pre-employment behavioral interview
Ability to communicate proficiently in the English Language, both orally and in writing
PPD clearance and Hepatitis B vaccination or waiver
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to access interior of the ambulance (step of up to 16 inches) using OEM equipment unassisted.
Periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending and turning.
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50lbs of equipment and medical bags unassisted.
Frequent movement in the back of the ambulance in tight conditions.
Frequent assistance with transferring patient from bed to stretcher and vice-versa.
Able to operate motor vehicle without restrictions.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects safely with assistance and without difficulty.
Ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty and the ability to lift and carry 300 pounds up and down one flight of stairs (16 - 19 steps) safely with assistance.
Pay: $16.00/hour SHIFT DIFFERENTIALS
