Posting Text Posting Number S00545P Position Status Non-Exempt Reporting Relationship(s) Night Custodial Supervisor Supervisory Relationships Lead Night Custodians, Night Custodians, Student Employees Job Summary Together with the Night Custodial Supervisor, this position is responsible for organizing and directing all work required for the cleaning and upkeep of academic and administrative buildings. Oversees and works alongside the Night Custodial team. With the Night Custodial Supervisor, ensures that all custodial duties are done safely, completely, and in a timely fashion, and that all completed work is up to standard. In the Supervisor's absence, the Assistant Supervisor performs the Supervisor's duties. The hours for this position are 11:00 pm to 7:30 am, Sunday night through Friday morning. Salary Grade Essential Functions Oversees Night Custodial team in all assigned tasks and projects and works alongside the team. Under the direction of the Night Custodial Supervisor, leads special projects and activities assigned to department. Completes time card procedures for Night Custodial team members. Instructs Night Custodial team in and ensures its compliance with department policies and procedures relating to assigned duties. Organizes the Night Custodial team's work through the setting of priorities, schedules, and deadlines, and empowering, as appropriate, the Lead Night Custodians' participation in the same. Establishes, maintains, and fosters a positive and effective working relationship with the Night Custodial team and with others contacted in the course of work. Ensures the safety of the Night Custodial team through regular safety inspections of equipment and review of procedures. Inspects cleaned areas, noting where work has not been done to standard and providing feedback to Lead Night Custodian or Night Custodians responsible for those areas to improve performance. Monitors and documents concerns regarding any recurrent performance problems as needed. Implements guidance from the Night Custodial Supervisor regarding performance improvement measures and/or training to be provided in relation to performance improvement. Assists the Night Custodial Supervisor with the maintenance of equipment. Assists with arranging and participates in selected seminars and other training to improve and update methods, equipment, and supplies. Other Duties and Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of custodial equipment and supplies including their proper usage. Experience with special project skills, e.g., floor stripping, carpet shampooing, etc. Ability to make competent decisions concerning custodial duties. Ability to provide constructive feedback when needed. Good oral and written communications skills. Ability to motivate fellow employees and foster a collaborative team spirit. Ability to demonstrate and maintain leadership by acting as a role model for fellow employees. Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm and professional manner. Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Class C driver's license. Ability to be fitted with and wear a respirator. Willingness to work overtime as needed, including weekends. Preferred Qualifications Previous custodial supervisory experience. Experience with a work order ticketing system. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements Employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions (temperatures varying from below 32 degrees to over 90 degrees) for periods of over one hour, subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, etc., and involves heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and lift 50 pounds. Must be able to be fitted with and wear a respirator. Must be willing to work overtime, including weekends, as required.
