General Summary:

As the Network Server Administrator (NSVA), the core focus will be designing, researching, and implementing critical server and network infrastructure. Further, serving as the highest troubleshooting escalation on the NetAdmin team. The NSVA will collaborate with Teams from our client, as well as business customers in the MSP division. Possessing knowledge of both our client and customers' server, network, and associated systems will be a crucial skill and highly valued. Understanding systems architecture and software utilization is paramount in making recommendations and defining custom solutions. The primary function of the NSVA will heavily involve reinforcing server and network infrastructure, as well as maintaining operational and security integrity of systems. As technology advances and new solutions are created, the NSVA will continue to further their skills and knowledge. Advancing skills will comprise of the following: specialized training, attending seminars and workshops, researching, and/or testing within a controller environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • NetAdmin Tier 3 escalation point. Research, design, configure, implement, and maintain critical infrastructure such as: physical & virtual server infrastructure, Backup and D&R system, and critical network appliances (Switches / Firewalls).
  • Design, holistically comprehend, and implement hardware and software solutions.
  • Maintain, configure, test, and monitor physical / virtual server infrastructure, network infrastructure, and end-user computer systems.
  • Performs other duties as needed including, but not limited to, completing various reporting and analytics, invoicing, administrative office duties, and other procedural functions.

Job Functions Expanded

  • Developing strategic procedures and upgrades, improving network infrastructures, and managing systems configuration.
  • Act as team lead during operational and strategic planning. This includes fostering innovation, assisting in planning projects, organizing, and negotiating the allocation of resources.
  • Contribute to managing the complete life cycle of information systems, from requirements and analysis to design and development.
  • Integrate information systems and ensure connectivity that allows our client to automate business processes and enhance the sharing and embedding of data between various applications and systems.
  • Installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades of internal and external network and servers.
  • Monitor the performance of network, servers, software, and hardware.
  • Manages our client's virtual environments and maintains redundancy across multiple locations.
  • Ensure the smooth deployment of new applications, systems, and solutions.
  • Define System Design for virtual and physical server and network environments.
  • Collaborate design with Server, Systems, and Network Administrators.
  • Active cross-functional cooperation with teams in NetOps. Involved with external clients, representing our client in discussions, meetings, and investigations.
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.
  • Creates and maintains technical reference documentation to be used in support and training of Information Technology (IT) personnel.
  • Performs moderately complex application and storage system upgrades (hardware/software) as well as periodic health checks in accordance with established corporate policies and procedures.
  • Defining product functionality and creating technical documentation, supporting, or leading investigations and securing software releases.
  • Support the development of business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Inventory control of IT related items/product.
  • Interact with co-workers, peers, and supervisor in a constructive, productive, and cooperative manner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of server (both physical and virtual) implementation
  • Microsoft Windows Server 20012 and newer
  • Linux RedHat 8/9, Debian, CentOS, and Ubuntu.
  • Linux BIND DNS and DHCP solutions
  • MySQL and/or MariaDB
  • Expert in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting
  • Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP and SNMP
  • Additional Linux certifications (RHCT, RHCE and LPIC) will be considered an advantage
  • File server systems (DFS)
  • SAN and virtual environments (VMware preferred)
  • Datacenter operations cabling best practices
  • Back-up systems and solutions (Veeam)
  • Cisco networking practices and protocols
  • Network technologies, protocols, and equipment
