Job Summary

The Network Administrator II is responsible to provide technical support and troubleshooting to solve simple to moderately complex network related issues. The Administrator will work with Information Security Administrators; Systems Support Analysts, and other network administrators to accomplish infrastructure tasks and initiatives. The Administrator will perform monitoring of the local and wide area networks in a multi-platform, protocol, and operating system environment solving or escalating as needed. This includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links while ensuring minimal network downtime. The Administrator will also perform installation and configuration of a wide variety of network systems, including network switching, routing, and wireless infrastructures.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • To carry out essential functions of this job, must have a valid Utahs drivers license with no more than four moving violations in the past three years; or, if a non-driver, must be able to travel efficiently by another means to and from varied locations within UTAs service area. Lack of a drivers license does not necessarily preclude employment. No applicant may have more than one violation of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs within the last ten years.
  • Must be able to remain calm and work competently in a dynamic and occasionally high-pressure environment
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays, and to share in the on-call responsibilities as required to support a 24x7 network environment.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Telecommunications is required or equivalent work experience as defined below in a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5) years' experience providing technical support, troubleshooting to solve moderately complex network related issues including routing, switching, wireless infrastructures, DNS administration, DHCP administration and physical network components.

Preferred:

  • IT related professional certifications such as but not limited to:
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
    • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP)
    • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
    • MTA: IT Infrastructure
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP)
  • Project management experience.
  • Cisco IOS, Nexus and wireless controller experience.
  • Cisco and Palo Alto firewall experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with IP addressing and subnetting, Routing concepts.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols BGP, RIP V1/V2, OSPF, IGRP and EIGRP
  • Implemented traffic filters using Standard and Extended access-lists, Distribute-Lists, and Route Maps.
  • Implementation of HSRP, MPLS, MOE, SIP, VoIP, Dot1Q, VLAN

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Solid understanding of routed and routing protocols; demonstrated ability to troubleshoot medium to complex IPv4 routing issues
  • Solid understanding of Classless Internet Domain Routing (CIDR); ability to clearly explain and articulate CIDR
  • Solid understanding of Layer2 technologies and ability to clearly explain and articulate Layer2 strengths and weaknesses
  • Solid knowledge of layer 2 switching and related technologies, i.e. Cisco switches, EtherChannel, BPDU Guard, RSTP, Port Security, and Spanning Tree Technologies.
  • Solid knowledge of layer 3 routing technologies, i.e. EIGRP, OSFP, BGP and HSRP.
  • Understanding of detailed technical features, functions and benefits of a controller-based wireless architecture
  • Thorough understanding of IPv4 and 32-bit numbers
  • General understanding of network topologies, both transport and IP.
  • General knowledge and experience of ISP/Communication Providers and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
  • General knowledge and experience of firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
  • General knowledge and experience with static and dynamic routing protocols.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate technical information effectively both verbally and in writing to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Working knowledge, understanding, and troubleshooting all layers of the network stack (OSI Model).
  • Must be able to understand the scope of their work and role within IT, thereby prioritizing projects and help requests accordingly, as well as seeking best-practices and long-term solutions over temporary patches
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to document work tasks, also anticipate problems, plan schedules, and monitor performance per priorities and deadlines.
  • Technical documentation skills.
  • Network troubleshooting skills and knowledge of network topologies.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers, routers, bridges, switches, hubs, wireless devices, modems, network interface cards, and so on.
  • Fundamental knowledge of current protocols, network standards and principals.


Must be able to pass a BCI, FBI, and UCJIS background check

Pay Rate: Starting at $30.048 per hour or more depending on experience
