GATES COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Day Care Part-Time Teacher Assistant SUPERVISOR: Day Care Supervisor SALARY GRADE: 49A (Non-exempt) GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB This position will assist a Lead Teacher in providing a warm and nurturing environment in which children can grow physically, emotionally and intellectually through planned group and individual activities. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Possess or be working toward educational qualifications of a teacher as outlined by state daycare license Minimum one year verifiable early childhood work experience preferred or be enrolled in three semester hours of early childhood education or child development courses Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to relate well to children and parents/guardians Professional oral and written communication skills Ability to work in a supportive team environment Nature of Work An employee in this position performs semi-skilled duties as they relate to child care and organized activities in which all children are treated with dignity and respect and allows for individual differences. These duties will be carried out under the direction of a Supervisor and Lead Teacher. Some independent judgement required regarding child safety and communication with adults. Basic observation record keeping required. Essential Functions Supervise and interact with children in all areas of instructional program, outdoor play and field trips as needed. Help control behavior of children using positive, appropriate approaches in a consistent manner. Maintain a safe, healthy and clean environment for children. Promote integral learning during meal times and assist children in learning good social skills. Display and maintain a warm, friendly environment that is sensitive to the feelings and needs of others. Maintain good communication with parents to maintain confidence and feel at ease with program. Assist Lead Teacher with planning activities for groups and offer suggestion and information regarding children. Develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the room, including planning, preparing and caring for resources. Assist the Lead Teacher in record keeping with regards to observations of the child's health, behavior and development. Be an advocate for improving program. Attend staff meetings, training programs and conferences as required to meet state standards and recommended for personal growth and development.
