POSITION: Multi-Tiered System of Support Coach - Secondary LOCATION: Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability PAY: Teacher Salary Schedule TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months REPORTS TO: Executive Director of School Improvement and Support JOB GOAL: To coach school improvement through a multi-tiered system of supports, supporting Johnston County Public Schools in the continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, data-based problem-solving, and assessment to improve teaching and learning in the district. QUALIFICATIONS: Current North Carolina Teaching License. Master's Degree preferred. Strong instructional background with the ability to think critically, problem solve using multiple data sources, raise teachers' consciousness and skillfulness around effective instruction, and design and deliver Professional Development. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders. Considerable knowledge of best practices to facilitate adult learning. Minimum of three years teaching experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide support at the district and secondary school level for the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) in the areas of professional learning development and coaching. Support the district focus by building capacity of stakeholders around PLCs, JCPS instructional model and curriculum. Develop, lead, implement, monitor, and collaborate with other educators in the schoolwide integration of the MTSS. Work to develop, implement, and sustain the JCPS MTSS framework. Ensure core instruction is aligned with the six critical components of the MTSS. Engage leadership teams and professional learning communities in consistent review of core, ensuring it is high quality, evidenced by meeting the needs of 80% of students. Ensure implementation of support is resulting in increases in student proficiency, graduation rates, and a decrease in the gap between sub-group proficiency and over-representation of particular subgroups in special education. Design and deliver professional development to school staff relating to the MTSS including intervention practices targeting all students whose needs are not being met by core instruction (evidenced by student data and achievement). Provide direction designed to promote continued growth and increase effectiveness among school personnel while adhering to local, state, and federal school laws, policies, and regulations. Collaborate with school system staff, interdepartmental representatives, and community groups regarding the MTSS program initiatives, implementation, and evaluation. Establish opportunities for teachers and administrators to increase knowledge of content standards, instructional strategies, related assessments, and the learning management system. Collaborate with stakeholders in Academic Innovation to ensure alignment of support as they work with schools. Support Professional Development Department with facilitating professional development that supports the Johnston County Public School's district goal. Meet with teachers, administrators, and PLCs to provide support on evidence-based, innovative instructional strategies. Support PLCs through supporting the creation of a collaborative environment among teachers and ensuring a focus on what directly impacts student learning. Facilitate and engage in the data-based problem-solving process. Navigate between a variety of coaching support functions. Work collaboratively with the school's leadership team to design, implement, and assess school and district initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on the intended results. Engage in reflection of one's own practice, to include analysis of support provided to schools, school staffs, the effectiveness of coaching cycles, and quality of staff-coach relationships. Stay abreast of changes relating to improving student outcomes and best practices in intervention by attending professional meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences. Perform other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid NC driver's license. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, administrators, district leaders, community leaders, agency representatives, and others. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations. Ability to supervise and coordinate a variety of staff programs and activities.
