Core Electric is in need of a Motor Winder, preferably one who can double as a Mechanic. We primarily repair motors and pumps of all shapes, sizes and ages.


The ideal candidate for this position has solid technical abilities; you should be able to use hand tools, power tools, and operate various kinds of machinery at a pretty competent level, and be prepared to do so on a full time basis.


More specifically, a Motor Winder in our shop needs to be able to:

  • Wind AC/DC electric motor stators, both random and form coil, armatures, and field frames
  • Assemble, repair, and maintain electric motors
  • Rewind and produce coils
  • R eplace and prepare components like stator cores and armatures
  • Disassemble large motors assist during rewind process and occasionally reassemble the unit
  • Replace defective coil leads and perform with oxy/acetylene brazing of connections of coils in specify sequence.
  • Prepare motor for dipping
  • Test to ensure that repairs were successful
  • Able to use testing equipment (ex. Baker, PdMA, Core Tester, Infrared Camera)
  • Perform final inspections
  • Proficient knowledge of the different winding connections, insulations and welding/soldering
  • Maintain and repair other electromechanical and electromagnetic components and industrial equipment
  • Use a welder, torches, band saw, drill press, etc.
  • Assist in manufacturing of new electrical components and motors

A background in Industrial Facilities Maintenance, Machine Repair, or Automotive Mechanic work could all translate well to this role. We are very willing to consider a mid-level experience - not someone totally green, but someone with only a basic foundation looking for training and an opportunity.


Our shop is located in Melvindale, MI, which is just south of Dearborn. We have about 12 other team members at that shop, with another 10 down in Toledo. We've been in business almost 50 years now. This is a very stable position - we have a large, established customer base, and there's no seasonality to our work. We can keep you busy all year.


This is a direct hire, full-time and long-term W2 role. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. All of the work is done in the shop - there is little to no field work expected of this role.


We're looking to pay around $26-31/hour for this position. You'll be eligible for overtime after 40 hours per week, and double time after 60.
