Specific Duties: Teachers shall become familiar with and abide by the professional code of ethics established by the profession. Teachers shall devote themselves exclusively to their duties during school hours. Teachers shall abide with their regularly assigned work day and shall attend all faculty meetings and activities occurring outside of the assigned work day requiring their assistance, i.e. music festivals requiring student supervision. Teachers shall be responsible for such school property including books and equipment that is provided. Teachers shall keep appropriate records for each assigned pupil regarding attendance, studies pursued, quantity and quality of work and other items as appropriate. Teachers shall remain with their assigned students in constant supervision. Teachers shall assist the building principal as requested for the supervision of students at lunch time, playground time, passage of students in the hallways and bus duty. Teachers shall follow a daily schedule approved by the building principal and shall post such schedule in their room(s). Teachers shall maintain appropriate lesson plans for all assigned classes, file a copy with the building principal and maintain the original in their room(s). Teachers shall be able to demonstrate that their chosen methods of instruction directly relate to the lesson plans (see number 9) and student abilities and that the grade records (see number 5) reflect the plans. Teachers shall, within the various curriculum guidelines of the district and county, select appropriate lessons, materials and methodology designed to teach the assigned students those skills appropriate for the age, grade and subject. Teachers shall work with fellow teachers, administrators and subject matter consultants to ensure continuity of skills taught between grades and subjects. Teachers shall maintain orderly discipline within their room(s) and shall report concerns to the building principal. Teachers shall be responsible for such other appropriate assignments and activities necessary for the operation of the schools as requested by the building principal or superintendent. Teachers shall recognize that the nature of school organization requires different teaching methods, time schedules and student assignments. Thus two positions, both teaching and both having the same compensation and benefits, may carry different responsibilities. Qualifications: Teaching candidates shall possess and update as necessary a valid Ohio teaching certificate (the teacher may, but is not required to, obtain certification in areas other than held at the point of employment). Teaching candidates shall be of good moral character and be able to demonstrate by appearance and general manner an ability to present a good role model to students. Teaching candidates should have prior successful teaching experience if possible. Teaching candidates should be able to discuss appropriate methodology in relation to the subjects and student ages for which the candidate is being considered.
