Position: Mobile Equipment Shop Technician

Location: USA Lucerne Valley, California

Compensation: $27.08/hr - $38.58/hr

Job Summary

To repair all mobile equipment to a safe and usable level. Plan, organize and perform major repairs and special projects. The Mobile Equipment Shop Technician position is a continuum beginning at Mobile Equipment Shop Technician1 and progressing through Mobile Equipment Shop Technician 4 as skills are gained. Level is determined through the use of training checklist and the accumulation of points as skills are gained. Employees may be assigned to perform any task for which they have been qualified. Employees may also be assigned to positions for which they are working to become qualified as a portion of the training process. The duties for all grandfathered Mobile Equipment Shop Positions also fall within the scope of this job description.

This is considered a safety sensitive position therefore will be subject to random drug testing as required.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on mobile equipment. Perform position welding projects. Perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs. Perform and plan brake replacements on Haul Trucks. Perform low power troubleshooting on Heavy Trucks and loaders. Organize outside venders to get repairs done when needed. Order parts to get delivered in emergency situations. Acts as fill in team leader when management is not available. Perform all types of troubleshooting repair and modification to all mobile equipment from golf carts to 992's. Perform computer entry including time cards, issuing parts, and emails to vendors. Trains and leads lower level Technicians. Read service manuals and parts manual to perform needed repairs. Perform hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs to trucks and loaders.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Refuel trucks and loaders. Keep track of and put away special order parts.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Ability to speak and read English, and advanced mechanical/electrical skills and industrial equipment/systems are required. Knowledge of computers is preferred. Formal education/trade tech in automotive mechanics preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, an employee is typically required to have the ability to exert physical strength throughout the work shift, coordinate movements, use repetitive motions, have the ability to operate mobile equipment, regularly stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, reach, crouch, kneel, lift, twist, push and pull throughout a work shift; work in confined spaces, have manual dexterity, lift materials weighing up to and including 50 pounds, select and use appropriate equipment/tools to accomplish job duties, read, write, listen, speak and understand English, follow all instructions and other oral/written information, visually inspect equipment/work area, complete paperwork and other documentation accurately, identify, analyze, troubleshoot and solve equipment/work area issues using judgement and mechanical/electrical knowledge and skills, react quickly as needed, use judgement to determine when additional resources are needed to address issues, communicate effectively with others, record labor distribution information from the work shift in writing and/or on a personal computer, be aware of oneself in relation to surrounding equipment, work independently and as a team with others, and use, monitor and adjust equipment and related processes. Ability to instruct/transfer job information/knowledge to others and infrequently lift between 50 and 100 pounds is preferred.

Must be able to work with, troubleshoot and install mobile equipment electrical components and systems, possess excellent welding, fabrication, and flame cutting skills, possess extensive knowledge of lubrication methods, be able to repair power repair major equipment while leading a crew, install troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic operated systems, read, understand and follow blueprints, drawings, and electrical schematics.

Being under general supervision, the employee is expected to be self-directed, take initiative and be persistent when appropriate to accomplish necessary duties and complete required work without prompting from the supervisor. Additionally, the employee is expected to be adaptable/flexible to changing work assignments, perform multiple tasks at once, have a high level of integrity, dependability and self control to maintain composure, learn and memorize procedures, prioritize work, manage time effectively and efficiently, meet established deadlines, display a cooperative attitude and leadership, read, understand and follow all company, job specific and safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Formal trade training preferred.

Licensing: A valid driver's license is preferred.

Experience: At least five years experience in an industrial environment with equipment including, but not limited to, mobile equipment such as Large Haul trucks, Loaders, Dozers, pickup trucks, forklifts, and commercial motor vehicles such as dump trucks and bobcats, is required.

Work Hours: Must have ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays and weekends, as necessary. Call-ins may occur as needed.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, an employee is typically exposed to dust, loud noise, high places, confined spaces, very low and/or bright light, and outside weather conditions. Primarily works alone but may work as part of a team working in close proximity to others and works in close proximity with equipment.

Safety Equipment: Safety equipment typically required while performing the duties of this job include a personal lockout/tagout lock, ANSI approved hardhat and safety glasses with sideshields, safety shoes/boots with steel toe protection. Appropriate safety equipment is required when welding such as welding mask, metatarsal guards are required if job duties are frequently performed in the Wire or Calcium departments, and additional safety equipment is available for use if a situation arises where it becomes required depending on the assignment or if it is simply desired by the employee.
