Job Description SCOPE OF POSITION
The Medical Laboratory Technician II is responsible for the performance of a variety of moderate to high complexity testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease under the professional direction of a qualified Medical Technologist or other certified Laboratory Scientist as defined by appropriate regulation(s). The Technologist will have direct patient contact such as phlebotomy, pediatric sweat chloride testing, bleeding time, bone marrow assistance, therapeutic phlebotomy procedures. The scope of care may include the procedures performed on neonate, child, and adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients. Responsibilities include basic troubleshooting and repair of selected instrumentation.
The Technician may be requested to assist with the clinical training of students and/or orientation of new employees. The Technician will support the Laboratory's Performance Improvement Programs to ensure services exceed quality and customer service standards. The responsibility of supporting a self-directed laboratory team concept is demonstrated by having a positive attitude, willing to give and accept constructive criticism, always maintaining a high quality work standard and willing to accept other duties as assigned.
The Technician may be asked to assume charge responsibilities that include workflow monitoring, and serving as the first line response for medical personnel with regards to problem solving and resolution.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree is required. Must meet the CLIA '88 Testing Personnel Interpretative Guidelines.

A Medical Laboratory Technician performing testing in the State of Tennessee must hold a current Tennessee licensure per the State of Tennessee General Laboratory Board rules and regulations 1200-6-1-.03. A team member who may be hired while in the process of obtaining approval from the state of TN is prohibited to report laboratory testing values/results until a copy of the license is received and verified by the organization.
Medical Technologists performing testing in the State of Virginia must be nationally certified.
