Job Description SCOPE OF POSITION
The Medical Technologist II is responsible for the independent performance of moderate and highly complex testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Technologist is required to demonstrate practical knowledge and theoretical understanding of procedures in the clinical areas and critical thinking skills. This individual will have a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles used in diagnostic testing in order to recognize deviations in expected results, analyze technical problems and make necessary corrections to achieve quality results. The Technologist will be able to operate and maintain variety of complex scientific equipment is a requirement of this job. The Technologist will troubleshoot and repair selected instrumentation. The ability to recognize quality control deviations and communicate problems to management, pathologists, as well as other staff members; and assist with problem resolutions are also requirements. The Technologist may be asked to assume charge responsibilities that include workflow monitoring, and serving as the first line response for medical personnel with regards to problem solving and resolution. The scope of care may involve direct patient contact procedures such as phlebotomy, pediatric sweat chloride testing, and/or assistance with bone marrow collections on child, and adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Other procedures may include therapeutic phlebotomies on adult and geriatric patients.
The Technologist will be responsible for supporting a self-directed laboratory team concept is demonstrated by having a positive attitude, willing to give and accept constructive criticism, maintaining a high quality work standard and willing to accept other duties as assigned. This position may be required to provide didactic and clinical technique instructional training and competency assessments to new team members and students.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required. Must meet CLIA '88 Testing Personnel Interpretive Guidelines. Knowledge of accrediting & regulatory documentation requirements, patho-physiology for test result & disease assessment, and theory & application of testing is a requirement. Skills are required to sufficiently plan and carry out the testing performed in the department, and to solve and follow through on day-to-day problems referred by Technologists, Technicians, the Pathologist, and other laboratory or hospital personnel.

Medical Technologists performing clinical trial testing for the State of New York must meet The State of New York Department of Health Part 58-1 of 10 NYCRR Clinical Laboratories Standards 58-1.5, Duties and qualifications of clinical laboratory technical personnel.

Medical Technologists performing testing in the State of Tennessee must hold a current Tennessee licensure per the State of Tennessee General Laboratory Board rules and regulations 1200-6-1-.03. A team member who may be hired while in the process of obtaining approval from the state of TN is prohibited to report laboratory testing values/results until a copy of the license is received and verified by the organization.
