Description JOB DESCRIPTION : The Metrology Technician (Physical/Dimensional/Optical) is responsible for providing calibration and repair services on electrical equipment in the Physical and/or Mechanical Laboratories. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturer's manuals or similar documents. Requires the ability to use complex test instruments to support customer items. Qualifications REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION : Associate Degree, or related equivalent experience. Minimum equivalent experience is three (3) years' experience in metrology and repair of TMDE. Good working knowledge of calibration and maintenance of Optical primary measurements standards. Excellent working knowledge of calibration and maintenance of Physical, Dimensional, and/or Optical measurement standards (for example, gage blocks, internal/external comparators, optical flats and mirrors, laser interferometers, indexing tables, autocollimators, and theodolites). Ability to understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and measurement uncertainties is desirable. Ability to read, understand, and follow Air Force calibration procedures and manufacturers' manuals is required. Possesses the knowledge required to read and understand schematic and wiring drawings. Thorough understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 and USAF TO 00-20-14 requirements. Must be a US Citizen. Must be able to qualify for or have successfully completed a National Agency Check Investigation within the last ten (10) years. Above average proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), Windows based operating systems, and general internet navigation and usage required. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES : Essential/Typical Duties : Maintains, repairs, and calibrates Optical Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE). Performs general maintenance and overhaul procedures; uses TMDE to troubleshoot and repair equipment. Non-Essential Duties : Performs other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Often - Climbing, Stooping, Kneeling, Reaching, Standing, Sitting, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Talking, Hearing Lifting/Moving Requirements: The individual ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements when calibrating certain TMDE. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Normally works in an environmentally controlled work area.
