As a Metrology Lab Manager, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and overseeing a state-of-the-art metrology laboratory dedicated to measuring and inspecting critical aerospace components. Your expertise in precision measurement techniques, data analysis, and quality assurance will be essential for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our aerospace parts. You will collaborate across multiple design and development organizations as well as support partners in manufacturing and sourcing. As a leader in metrology, your expertise will be sought and consulted as well as playing an integral part of Anduril's product development process. What will separate this role from others is the ability to re-think metrology in the 21st century and build a capability to manage machines, methods, and data for maximum impact to Anduril's product making journey. WHAT YOU'LL DO Develop measurement procedures for critical aerospace components, including complex geometries, tolerances, and material properties. Prepare detailed measurement reports, including statistical analysis and graphical representations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and set up the metrology lab. Ensure proper layout, equipment placement, data recording/sharing, establish a work flow management process and safety protocols. Identify and procure necessary equipment, including Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), Optical Measurement Machines (OMM), surface roughness analyzers / interferometer, standard gauges, measurement fixtures, and data acquisition tools Oversee calibration, maintenance, and certification of lab equipment to maintain accuracy and traceability. Work closely with engineers, quality specialist, and production teams to address measurement challenges and optimize processes. Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ANS/ISO/IED 17025, ANSI Z540, etc.) and customer requirements. Communicate progress, challenges, and recommendations to senior management and project stakeholders. Develop and manage lab and service budget on a biannual basis. Provide quarterly assessment of business and engineering impact. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, or related field. Understand metrology concepts: measurement systems analysis, GR&R/AR&R, uncertainty analysis, reliability analysis, interval analysis, new measurement techniques, and specification interpretation Minimum 5 years of experience in metrology, preferably in aerospace or precision manufacturing. Supervisory experience and job shop management. Strong leadership skills to manage a team effectively. Excellent verbal and written communication for collaboration and reporting Proficiency in CMM/OMM programming with both model-based and direct programming software (PC-DMIS, Calypso, Verisurf, Polyworks, etc.) and experience with quality control measurement, as well as reverse engineering and real-time CAD model comparison. Familiarity with surface roughness measurement techniques and surface finishes for various materials - composites, plastics, rubbers/polymers, metals, aluminums, titanium, etc. Data analysis using statistical software (e.g., Minitab, JMP, MATLAB, etc). U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export controlled data Experience and working knowledge of execution of GD&T MIL STD 8, ASME Y14.47, ASME Y14.5 (metric and imperial methods), ASME Y14.45, etc. Experience with Solidworks MBD, and functions such as motion study, etc. Experience with manual inspection methods to validate 'border-line' findings. Manual inspection includes familiarity with using gage blocks, micrometers, EDDY current probes, thickness gage, calipers, drop indicators, thread gages, etc. Experience with design, creation, and partnership with engineering to develop jigs and fixtures to aid in inspection Experience with non-destructive testing such as magnetic particle inspection, liquid penetrant inspection, digital x-ray review, x-ray film review, etc. Experience with destructive testing such tensile test, compression, etc. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Associates degree and 10 years of experience ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) or equivalent. Understand AS9100 compliance, knowledge sharing and sustainment Strong metrology process knowledge & collaboration experiences, both within the organization and with the business partners / equipment suppliers Experience calibrating and/or using Measurement and Test Equipment US Salary Range $76,000 - $150,000 USD The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only.
