Job Title: Metrologist, GME Department: Global Manufacturing Engineering Manager/Supervisor: Senior Manager, Global Equipment Engineering FLSA Status: Exempt SOP Group: Mfg / Eng Management Position Overview: Insulet is the world's leading manufacturer of high-volume, disposable, electromechanical, wearable medical devices. As a Metrologist in the Global Manufacturing Engineering Group, you will support both current manufacturing operations as well as new product development by providing expertise in the execution of first article inspections of vendor supplied components related to the Omnipod product as well as the general inspection of manufactured components related to the automation equipment used to manufacture the Omnipod. You will work in a collaborative teaming environment and be responsible to work with peers within Insulet, as well as, with its suppliers and customers to ensure that Insulet is sourcing components that meet the specified quality standards. Responsibilities include: working with the cross functional team(s) and / or strategic partners, developing inspection programs, designing inspection gauges and fixtures and providing technical guidance on metrology related topics. This is a challenging role, suitable for an energetic problem solver who has solid technical, organizational and communication skills. Responsibilities: Perform gauge repeatability and reproducibility (R&R) studies on new and existing gauges as required. Create and maintain metrology device programs (e.g., OGP Smartscope, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), etc.). Experience with using measurement software such as Measure X, ZONE 3, Calypso, PC DMIS or equivalent software. Provide training in the use of the CMM and inspection instruments as required. Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing and Equipment Engineering on troubleshooting and projects as required. Support with root cause investigation of internal issues and customer complaints as needed. Support in the development of quality systems procedures and metrics. Perform first article / production part approval process (PPAP) inspections. Assists in qualification activities related to instrumentation and calibration. Provides technical support for engineering projects towards improvement of processing equipment, utilities, and facilities instrumentation, as needed. Work collaboratively in a fast-paced multiple project environment. Design gauges and fixtures for metrology related tasks as required. Performs, as needed a variety of installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair duties on complex laboratory, process, and utility instrumentation, working closely with the Maintenance, Operations, and Automation groups in a paperless work environment, following SOPs in a cGMP facility. Ensure all calibrations are performed in accordance with written procedures and/or approved industry standards. Ensure that all standards used are within their calibration due date before use, return standards to the lab when due for recalibration. Ensure compliance with the Insulet Quality System. Document and evaluate the results of calibrations performed. Actively participate in continuous improvement efforts and team meetings Make recommendations for training programs and cross-training. Education and Experience: High School Diploma with 3+ years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. 3+ years experience with metrology device programming (e.g., OGP Smartscope, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), etc.). Skills/Competencies: Ability to gather and analyze measurement data and provide a written report of the results. Must be proficient in blueprint reading and the use of basic measurement tools and devices. Demonstrated flexibility and ability to function in a fast-paced, growth industry and work environment. Strong organizational skills. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written). Ability to effectively communicate both internally and externally, as well as to upper management. Strong interpersonal skills Prior evidence of successful participation on work teams where combined contribution, collaboration, and results were expected. Demonstrated proficiency in common computer tools such as word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based applications. Proficiency with the use of CAD modelling software (SolidWorks preferred). Physical Requirements: Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as business needs demand. NOTE: This position requires on-site working (requires on-site office/plant/lab work). Additional Information: The US base salary range for this full-time position is $65,700.00 - $98,700.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
